Is buying a tracked car for a daily a bad idea?

Can’t be proven so it’s all blind trust if you don’t know the person or know anyone that do. If the person admits to more than a few fingers then I’d really judge the car based on how he drives it in spirited mode. I’d stay clear if the person shows crappy driving habits. I can only imagine how the person treats the car beyond the 3-4th time on the track.
I suggest you not worry about how I feel one way or another.
I suggest you not be sad for either the car or the owner.

I'm not worried about how you feel, I'm just suggesting that it is waste of time to be sad about how a car feels because, well...never mind.
And it's certainly a waste of time to be sad about an owner who has never tracked his or her 996 Turbo, because they may in fact be perfectly happy with the way they use their car.

imo it is sad if never tracked. similar to a guy married to a super model and they never made love that is the purpose.
btw I never said tracked cars are better maintained I said usually. because of track inspections and for reliability, tracking usually forces owners to maintain and inspect better than MOST non tracked cars.

Look at it on a case by case basis. I wouldn't rule out a car because of track use.
Lot of people don't consider drag strip use as "tracking" the car, but I'd say that a day at the drag strip is a lot harder on the car than a day at the road course... and let's not pretend some people don't beat the crap out of their cars on the road.

I have a '02 996tt and have zero interest on taking it to the track. Sorry if that offends some of you but I really am quite happy just taking it out on the back roads and driving.

I am actively searching for a 996TT and some contenders have been historically tracked, some from 1-2 times, others more. From someone who wants a daily driver and has no plans to track it, is considering a tracked car going to cause more problems downstream? Reliability is my main concern.
If reliability is your main concern, may I suggest buying something newer than the 18 to 14 year old cars you are looking at. Running the car hard certainly doesn’t help the longevity, but age in itself will be a much larger factor in the coolant tube , radiator, stereo, fuel pump hose, brake hoses, coolant hoses, and many other things a car capable of 200mph, or close to it, needs. Not to mention all of the other numerous parts That don’t get better with age.
One good thing that would come out of regular tracking would be that the coolant pipes may have been addressed, either temporary pinning or welding. Either way the older the machine, the less reliable it is. In another 7 years the first 996 turbos can be classified as “ classic” cars, and licensed as such.

Get over it and enjoy your Friday sitting in the Porsche in the garage.

I would take a lightly tracked and meticulously maintained Turbo any day over a never tracked and "casually" maintained car.
Note that a tracked car is very different than a race car. A true race car used for several seasons that perhaps has been converted back to street spec, I would avoid.
