Coupe or cab
I have no doubt coupes are great - but, my cab is fantastic. The minute tradeoff (maybe) between the two is understood, but the drop top - man oh man!! If you’re a cab guy, it’s a no brainer. If not, the coupe is it. Which are you? That’s the deciding factor. |
Cab Pro: In a cab, the top goes down.
Coupe Pro: The coupe doesn't have a "top". |
All depends on how you look at a stop light. If you look like a 50 something doctor/lawyer or trophy then a cab will fit the bill. Make sure it has buttons on the steering too. J/K. |
If you are wanting to carry anything in the rear of a cab other than groceries, good luck. I went coupe due to having a couple of kids & knowing that I would occasionally need to fit them both in the car---possible to do with passenger seat forward in the coupe but not in the cab as the roof eats up most of the rear "seat" area.
In a few years when the kids are driving I'll probably go cab--the wind noise in the coupe at proper speeds is very high, ditto the cab with the top up. Ability to top down is huge IMHO. |
As a purchaser, I would guess a cab will probably not have any track time.

Coupé pro: lighter, more rigid, nicer to be in when you'd be driving the cab with the top up.
Coupe con: in the summer when it's hot and sunny it feels like you're in a cage even with the roof open. Cab pro: driving a Porsche with the top downd on a hot summer day will have you sing "Gloria in excelsis deo" even if you're not Catholic. Cab con: heavier, less rigid, not as nice as a coupe if you have to drive it with the top up. Where I live, the open top driving season is very short but I wouldn't mind a cab when I eventually buy another 996tt. |
Cab con if you’re in heavy stop and go traffic is you get barbecued on hot days. Best time is really at dusk on warm days. Too much glare coming through the sunglasses and hate wearing visors or caps. |

I had a 97 M3 4 door for years and loved it. Was my favorite car until I eventually got a Boxster S. That was my favorite until I got my 996 tt coupe. I have to admit, on a great evening I love the Boxster S, but I love the coupe look and feel, too. Right now I have both but will eventually sell the Boxster (I think!) :-) The good thing these are not life and death decisions - buy a cab/coupe - drive it and in a couple years switch to the other if you want. You will enjoy either type of these great cars.

Had a 2001 TT coupe - loved it. Now have a 2004 TT cab - love it even more. Best of both worlds for what I want out of a car - zero problems with the top, and cruising al fresco is sublime. |

I like both. My Porsche is a coupe, by we have a AMG c300 Convertible. Best of both worlds. The Cab has heat on the neck if we feel a chill.
