I've enjoyed cat-less setups on other cars without any real issues, but want to make sure it's a good overall choice on this platform. I've never owned a 996TT without cats, hence a little apprehension about it. Assuming emissions are not the issue, would you guys all go cat-less on this platform? It would also save me a few bucks on the exhaust, so there is a bit of a bonus there too.
I've run catless on many platforms, and compared to Mustangs, Subies, and a Viper, the 996TT is very liveable with decats. Not really smelly compared to any of my prior 'hotrods'. Disclaimer, I only run 100 unleaded in the 911, so it does smell quite a bit different than 91 octane pump swill.

I ran decats for about 3 years before I decided to quit while I was ahead. I'd run de-cats If I lived in the Southeast or Texas or really anyplace that wasn't as draconian as California.

Recently, I went from a de-cat Kline, to stock exhaust (to pass smog) and back to a fresh HJS 200cell catted Kline in the course of less than a week. I was very surprised to learn that the Kline, both de-cat and catted, isn't much louder than stock at idle and cruise speeds. Whole different story at WOT though.

There is a rumor that some laws may be rolled back.

Thanks for the feedback on the de-catted Kline system all, good stuff and I'll be happy to pursue the de-catted system.

If you live long enough, which you won’t, you’ll be driving snowcats instead of pcars so it really doesn’t matter whether you go the decat route or not. Enjoy what’s left to enjoy.

If you wonder what the future will will look or smell like just go to India/China at the height of Summer.

i've never heard of a CA law being repealed! that would be a first.. but im not worried about "loud" as i'm running the kline. its only loud if i were speeding! presenting a larger issue lol

Maybe we need a 996 Turbo all-electric conversion DIY thread started here because by 2030 the Green New Deal, if adopted (hopefully not), will have completely phased out all fossil fuels.

You are not wrong 02996ttx50! Crazy times we live in, but even crazier if you live in Southern California.

FYI Kline can make you a "fake" cat. It looks exactly like a 200 cell cat on the outside/same size shell but straight pipe on the inside. Years ago I was paranoid of a possible visual inspection.
Felix the owner of Kline made mine I believe the same price as straight pipes
