Default 2002-2005 OEM exhaust

Is there a reason why the 2002-2005 exhaust with part number 996-111-987-xx should not be used on a 2001 TT to replace its original part 996-111-027-xx?

996-111-027-nn is specified to fit 2001-2005 TT/GT2/TTS.

But 996-111-987-xx is specified to fit only 2002-2005 TT/TTS/GT2.

Why? They look identical. All the supporting pieces also have identical numbers.

The "987" version exhaust has internal modifications that reduce its backpressure somewhat to accomodate the higher output of the X50 and GT2 versions of the engine, so if your desire is to run a stock version of the exhaust, then between the "027" and "987" versions, the "987" is the better choice. It will sound a bit better, too. That said, neither will produce the power gains or drone-free performance of a high quality aftermarket exhaust like a Europipe.
