Has anyone tried GMAX RS

General has a new-ish tire out, GMAX RS, ive talked to people that have them on corvettes and they say that they're the tire they're very, very good tire for the price.
Cheaper than sumi's @ discount tire.
I'm running ps fronts and ps2 rears, I'm getting tired of spending almost 1000 a rear set.
I don't know anyone that has them on any turbo or porsche for that matter so I was hoping someone that has them can chime in.
No track days or dig/drag but i do like the roads in my back yard.

Let us know how it goes. ;) I have also heard good things, and may try them next.

haven't been on that model yet but General has been making some great tires lately

GMAXRS

Have them on my '02, 996TT. Just over 5,000km, [ 3000 miles].

No complaints; they are wearing well and hold the road both in wet and dry.

Relative to the Pirelli .PZero's that lasted just 15,000km on the rear, these
are doing well, at much less cost. But as with the poster, on track/autocross.

GHope this helps.

I'm assuming those General tires will fall into about the same performance category as the Sumitomos. Great for commuting and cruising, probably not the tire for aggressive canyon and/or open tracking. It's nice to see another option for 295/30!

+1

Now if we could just get some more 315/30's. :)

Yes I have a set on for couple months with 200 miles so far. They’re fine for the usual highways and skyline runs. Tracks straight, don’t wander, responsive, not too stiff like the Bridgestones. Runs fine in wet. Can’t beat the price, treadwear and warranty. No brainer for regular use. Why waste PS2s on daily or weekend drives? Wish these were available years ago.

i have a set waiting to go on my Z3 project. they look great and feel very sticky. no miles yet. I was pleased to see they came in our sizes

Got them installed today, oem sizes, hollows; after breaking them in on a 100 mile drive they're just as good as ps2s in the dry at normal speeds. During a spirited drive on twisties they get a bit vocal on some fast turns; my old ps2s never made a sound other than the normal road noise on the same turns. After the drive I took a quick look at the them while they were hot, there was a bit of rubber on my wells which makes me believe these dont hold up well on long stretches of spirited driving and heat. Temp outside was 70. 700 out the door at discount tire all 4 corners with 50 rebate; theyre very good street tires compared to ps2 and nitto/toyo. Torrential random rain season hasnt started in florida yet so i havent tried them in the wet but I believe they'll hold up. So theyre good for street driving and 20 minute spirited runs but after that I think you'll start losing rubber when they get too hot.

Thanks for the review.

that tire's tread pattern looks eerily similar to the old ( scary ) hankook ventus v12. i'm actually glad they don't make them in 315/30/18.

MezgerTT 02-08-2019 12:17 AM

You can say they look a lot like the Bridgestone S02A too. Means nothing. They all copy the popular tread patterns and just vary a little. I think the tires are fine. Wouldn’t waste PS2 to be stuck in daily traffic if that’s what the car is used for most of the time.

After 200 miles on the tire and a few hard drives they grip just as good as ps2s on my runs. No psm issues or steering issues oddly enough my right drift is gone car drives straight, with my old ps2 I had to adjust my wheel to about 11:50 to get it straight. Def a great tire for the price, now to replace the 2004 tires on my new to me old z06.

Have 400 miles on my set. Was able to gun it in heavy down pour from 60-100 without any hint of traction or water channeling problem. I like driving in the wet. Impressive for some El cheapo tires with a 360AA rating for sure. Only thing is the steering wheel or front end is starting to shake. Back to the balancer.

I try not to drive around where I live in heavy dpwnpour. There's way too many twists and turns in my town and way too many people.
