Anyone running Briegestone Potenza RE-71R's?

I love these tires on my M3, but looks like the best matched sizes (OEM hollow spokes) are 225/40/18 92W and 285/30/18 93W's offered by Tirerack.

Would I regret that size? Any other recommendations for similar performance tires (street+autox).

I don't think you'll find anyone running with 285/30/18s here. It's either 295/30/18 or 315/30/18. Ok, few hardcore guys are running monster 335s.

I loved the RE-11s on my WRX STi, great tires. If only they were available in 295/30 :-(

There are several of us running Yok AD08Rs on the street (and track). They also work great, my only complaint is that they got loud @ approx. half life remaining.

Try the Potenza S-02A tires in OEM sizes.

Switched to the Yokohama AD052 and its more comparable to the grip and longevity (low) of the RE71Rs. Very good tire and is available in stock sizing. There has also been a significant price drop on this tire on tirerack.

Re71R is the tire of choice for my local autox. They are sticky but also loud and wear quickly. They are also one of the cheapest competitive tires. In Canada they are dirt cheap at Costco.

They don't last long if you do a lot of DE/lapping days so I would recommend a different tire if you want them to last a while.

Another option to consider for street/track duty is the Falken RT-615K+. I got ~4200 miles out of a set including a few AutoX events, and you can get them in 245 + 315.

They are the tire of choice at my local autox as well, but they don't come in the right sizes for our car, sadly

Like the AD08R more than the S02A. Less harsh/noise, better tread life, and good all around handling and stickiness.

I've been using 235/40r18 and 285/35r18 MPSS. Ran them on the track and as a daily. Totally fine as a daily, increase the rear tire pressure to counter any oversteer from the combination. I switch between them and OEM sized AD08R.
I will probably run 225/285s for the PS4S tires or 235/40 and 295/35 MPSS next.

+1 here - although they don't have the top end rating as the Michelin's, I find them much stickier and quieter than the ZR rated standard rubber...

This is really encouraging to hear, because I'm shortly going to have to decide between the Michelin PS2s and Falken RTK615+ in size 245/40 and 315/30. My AD08Rs are screaming loud now and they only have a few thousand miles remaining. I don't need a track tire, just a sticky canyon tire that preferably isn't too loud @ freeway speeds.

I was surprised by how quiet they were to the Michelin's, and once they are warm, I find them stickier than the Michelin's - I will buy another set when I have to.

Have you had Michelin tires on the car since you've owned it?

Hi Dock. In fact I have not experienced Michelins on my Turbo. 4 years ago the car came with new Falken FK453s...they were ok for about 5000-6000 miles until they a) became very loud up front and b) rears lost much of their grip @ approx 1/2 life.

My criteria in order of importance is dry traction, ride quality (quiet is better), and longevity. I don't need a 15 or 20K mile tire, that will take too long to wear out given I'm only averaging 3000 miles per year.

I am fairly confident that I'll like (love!?!) the PS2s in 245/315 sizes. That's what makes the choice a bit challenging, I want as much grip as I can get but I don't want super loud tire. I just don't know if the Falken RTK615+s offer significantly more grip than the PS2s. I'm making the assumption that the PS2s are the pinnacle of ride quality for our cars, there's nothing quieter than a Michelin in my experience.

2fcknfst, I really appreciate your feedback. Thank You!

MezgerTT 01-21-2019 08:16 PM

PS2 is not all that. For the extra $$$ you get the most boring looking design too.
