That is good news!
The metal ones dont explode but can eat into the casting. Have a buddies 928 in the garage that the pulley migrated slightly deeper and ate a hole into his block.

not worth arguing about.. but. the metal OR the composite impeller can and has imploded. its all about the leftover parts that end up inside the entire cooling system if it does. or this is how its been explained to me. ive never actually had one grenade OR seen the leftover bits.

RI just dropped off mine today to a local Porsche indy shop to have the lines pinnned. No issues yet, just being proactive. Still yet tbd what else I’ll need or want once they’re in there. But possibly a new water pump to be prudent. My car only has 12k miles but going on 18 years old. I was inquiring about a suspension upgrade as well so this could be a slippery slope.

They said it would be but I was surprised as I thought they didn’t need to for pinning, only with welding. They use the Sharkworks methods as well as their piping. I haven’t been quoted yet but they estimated it could be a 17 hour job which would put it at around $2100 for labor which seemed in line with what I’ve read elsewhere here... anywhere between $2-3k.

Anybody know if the Pierburg water pump comes with the gasket or not? All the pics show it with it, but some sites say to order the gasket as well... even though it shows the gasket in the picture.

Rambler- Looks like your in Ct, what shop is doing the work? A nearby P-car Indy in Danbury, quoted around over 4k just for welding the lines .
Only 12k miles.., mine just turned 14k.

Hey there, yes sir, I’m using Musante in Windsor. They are a race shop and have done many of these. Welding usually costs more but they told me they’ve never had a failure with pinning and that the Sharkworks type method has been the go to method for them in recent years vs. welding.
