Default New type of Coolant Pipe leak

The first two pictures show where the crack is, this is not my car. You see the area with the crack marked in red. I found those pictures online.

The rest of the pictures shows my leak.

A part of the housing has broken off the Water Pump Housing because of an impact.

I'd like to find out if there is a way to weld this without having to pull the motor. I have looked at pictures of the motor pulled and can't make out if the aluminium plate that is on the rear of the motor can be removed while it is in the car. This plate prevents access to the rear of the crack in order to weld it.

A second idea, if that is not possible, might be to just weld the opening of the housing shut and feed coolant into the passenger side of the engine from somewhere else with a flexible or stainless pipe. I have already turned around the 90 degree inlet pipe which goes into the engine block.

Am I totally off the rocker here?

Does anyone have any ideas?

Is there a coolant flow diagram?

That will be impossible to weld on the car. You should be able to pull that housing off with the engine in the car and get it welded. Make sure to pressure test it before you put it back on. Welding cast aluminum has lots of variables and every weld needs to be tested.

Silly question, but why not replace the entire piece and be sure, rather than roll the dice on welding cast parts?

Part is not available in the US. Dealer said five to eight weeks to get.

Then it sounds like you are waiting... I would not weld that piece, a) it does not look uniform in thickness (this will create hot/weak spots), and b) it is thick enough to require some fairly serious amps in order to get good weld penetration - which increases the chance of burn through and finally c) if one wants to own a car like this, one should maintain it with happy parts, not cobbled together fixes that are not fully engineered.

I would not weld this piece. Parts that have casting like your have a tendency to crack in other places once they are heated and compromised. Check with the wrecking yards or waited out.

if you support the motor underneath you can remove the motor brace and get to the water pump housing for removal. i have a spare housing in good shape without the ims cover or gears . you can reuse yours and replace the broken part if you want. 450$ plus shipping in the usa. send me a email address if you want detailed pics
