Default Fuel gauge question

just finished replacing the dreaded split fuel line in the fuel tank. Buttoned everything up and the gauge read empty and light on with approx 5 gal in the tank. Is there an adaptation procedure? Thanks for any insights.

Quick google search...

1. Disconnect the battery and cover terminal or battery.
2. Remove cap over the fuel level sensor system.
3. Remove fuel level sensor. ' Rep. Gr. 20 66 19; Removing and installing fuel pump.
4. Using a fuel extractor, completely drain the fuel tank through the fuel level sensor opening. Fuel extractor:
Refer to the Workshop Equipment Manual, Chapter 3 "Workshop Equipment".
5. -Make sure that the two recesses on the left and right-hand sides of the tank are emptied
completely.-
6. Reinstall the fuel level sensor and, with "ignition off", fill the tank with -28 litres- of fuel.
7. Perform tank calibration with the Porsche System Tester 2:
· Select vehicle type (911 Carrera)
· Select control modules
· Select instrument cluster
· Select menu item "Tank calibration"
· Confirm calibration
8. The fuel level sensor system has now been calibrated.

thanks, bummer I have no tester. Anyone know an alternate method sans tester? I had left ignition on when remounting bat terminals. Not sure if that has anything to do with the gauge reading 0.

I'm not sure if it applies to your situation, since you actually did some work to the car, but last time my gas gauge got out of calibration, I simply filled the tank up all the way and it fixed itself.

Have you read through this thread? https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...e-failure.html

How did you become aware of the split? Symptoms? Inspection?

some slight hesitation on blip and excelleration around 3800, which progressively got worse at start up idle hunting and heavy hesitation at quick blips. just replaced plugs a couple months ago, initially thought it maybe the maf and did a quick unplug diagnosis and still the same. at that point I figured it was the pump or hose...
