Hi Guys!
My 03 turbo likes to leak pentosin out the power steering reservoir cap (in engine compartment) so it fills the little black catch basin with about 1/2" of fluid every so often. Glad that little catch basin is there! I replaced the cap o-ring with a 999 701 154 40 $8 o-ring, but it didn't help. Fluid level is at mid-way when hot and everything works fine otherwise including clutch and steering function. Also, the cap does not appear to be cracked anywhere and fits snugly in place.

Just thought I'd check in case I'm missing something since I'm sure I'm not the first one with this problem, though I could not find any mention when searching. Thank you!

Does it repeat the hot vent/leak until nothing shows on the dip stick? Or does it settle down at a lower level?
If the 2nd leave it at the lower level and monitor.
If not replace the cap.

i have never seen this. are you certain its pentosin? and not residual water/fluid from washing the car or weather?? it will accumulate inside the cap lid.

just a thought.

Yeah, it's definitely pentosin!

And I do know about the water filling that basin after washing - I blow it out after every time!

And I'm in San Diego - no "weather" in these parts!!

how is the fluid level in the master cylinder (located in the frunk)?
When the check valves in the slave fail fluid migrates from power steering to master cylinder typically. Perhaps something in the slave screwed up and is sending fluid back to power steering?

Stop messing around and just replace the cap.

I decided to mess around... I smoothed up some of the flange lines on the inside of the lid where the o-ring seats and I'll see what happens. Have you had to replace your cap before?

I think Turbodan is correct. You might have a slave/master cylinder issue that is bleeding into the power steering system.

Hi Guys, thank you for your thoughts and assistance!

The front trunk clutch Pentosin reservoir has remained at its current level for years with no change, no leaking, nothin'.

While the level may stay the same on the dipstick, I check the level after wiping off the dipstick so I don't know if it was soaked all the way up or not the times it has overflowed.

So far the catch basin has remained dry for the past few days since cleaning it out and it reads in the middle of the hot level with engine just shut off, not running, but definitely at operating temp after 30 minute drive.

are you sure it is pentosin? if level remains the same probably not coming out of the power steering. could it be water from washing or rain? BTW I don't think it warms up so no need to bring to operating temperature to check level.

The dip stick has "cold" and "hot" markings. I check mine with the engine at normal operating temperature referencing the 'hot" mark on the dip stick.

I'm not sure how I came back to find this thread, but I just wanted to wrap this up: The power steering pump was replaced (only part replaced), and the issue of it leaking out the cap never occurred again.
