Sad but true that this is the society we live in these days. I'm sorry to hear about that but glad you caught the d-bag. Definitely try to push for the highest estimate just to teach this guy a lesson.

No need for an attorney to recover the diminished value (DV). Research laws in your state to make sure applicable first. There is a formula used to calculate. You should have no problem as you were hit while parked w/ out fault. These cars are not cheap to fix. Maybe think of selling as is and keep the money. Will take less time than waiting for repairs and now selling for top dollar. Something to consider.

Correction - he WAS with Travelers until he decided to do a hit and run. Any insurance company I bet would either drop someone that takes that kind of risk, or pretend that F150 is now a Bugatti Veyron premium.... Best case he probably has to carry high risk insurance.
Make sure you look into a dimishing value claim. I got a $5000 DV claim in addition to my $9k repair bill when I got rear ended. Depending on the state you live in, you may want to look into it.
Hope you get everything fixed!

Minnesota is a diminished value state, which means you may be entitled to thediminished value of your vehicle after an auto accident. The statute of limitation ondiminished value claims in Minnesota is 6 years, and Minnesota does not haveuninsured motorist coverage for diminished value.

As Rael posted previously. You might want to consider taking the insurance money and offering the car for sale as it.
Years ago, there was a Rennlister who lent his car to his neighbor for his HS Prom. He took it out into the country for a joy ride and lost control and went into the ditch and rural cattle fence posts/wire.
The car was the purple with the woody interior and tiptronic with 140K on the clock. He took the insurance monies and put the car on Ebay and sold it for $17K.. He had $16K in damage.

The cost is in the headlight(s). If you do get a payout, find a decent used headlight that will most likely match the used one on the other side and ~$1500 in paint and body on the high end and you are good to go. Let's face it, the car will never be a show car or garage queen, but it does make a hell of a driver and a driver that you are not constantly worried about parking and leaving outside--for you or someone else.

Keep it a while man. At this point it's becoming "the famous Nelsontod's car from rennlist". A few more months and you can legit say "car with provenance".
