Default Custom 997 DRL

So I got the car about 6 months and the previous owner hacked the bumper grills to fit the 997 DRL.

Unfortunately since the lights were not meant for this car they looked cross-eyed, both pointing in and downwards. The other thing I didn't like was they were only Amber. The new ones are white for normal operation and change to amber for turn signal

Haven't decided if I should write a diy since hacking open perfectly good lighta scares a lot of people. But I took a bunch of pictures.

I used the profile pivot switch back strips from retrofit source. And I recleared the passenger light with some fresh 2k. And I will be doing a retro later after summer.

Anyways enjoy the photos

Look much better than the OEM set. That was a LOT of work!

Those look way better than what the previous owner had on there. How do you have the colors set up to change? White for running lights and amber turns or?

What did you use to clean up your headlights? They look great!

The profile pivots have a module that you wire a hot and a wire to tap the parking light. So white is a running light and it changes the white to amber when the turn signal is activated.

The OEM clear coating was pretty hard and thick I ended up going down to 400 and making sure all the original.coating was removed and I had a 3m headlight restoration drill attachment laying around so that sped up the process. But essentially 400,500,600, 800, 1200. Cross wet sanding both ways till I only see the sanding scratches in one direction. Than mask and sprayed it with 2k clear coat. Which is like $20 a can and I applied 3 light coats followed by 2 heavy
heavy.

Congrats on thinking a little bit outside of the box. I too understand that mods like this aren't for everyone. Nor should they be. But I enjoy seeing what people come up with and how they execute their ideas. I like you, am a big fan of the 991.2 Turbo DRL's so I like how you integrated that design into the 997 DRL's. I also have a feeling it's one of those things that looks better in person than in pics. Though, I like it in pics as well. Good job! I have some ideas that I want to do also regarding lighting, so I can appreciate what you did and the work that went into it!

oh, also, if you want to use them as true DRL's as opposed to them coming on when you put the parking lights on, I believe that there's a fuse or something that can be put in that is used for Canadian cars where DRL's I believe were mandated at the time of the 996TT but were taken out for the US cars. Maybe someone more knowledgeable than I could comment on that. But I seem to remember something to that effect.

Just opinion, but the reason I'm not a huge fan is due to the 'bubble' appearance due to the placement more inside than the shape intends. (basically, the shape of them tends to fit more on the outside, where the current placement is too inside.)
Hope that makes sense, but like above have stated, props on functional and interesting retrofit.
