Default Cooling failure... light load

Hey everyone,

Went out for a nice after dinner drive to check out my new shifter, exhaust and suspension and I went around a corner and started to accelerate lightly then, poof, white smoke total coolant loss.

It appears to be coming from the left side of the engine, no coolant in the exhaust, but seem to have lost all coolant. 77kms on the clock.... getting it towed to my office and will tear into it.on the weekend.

Thoughts on the failure?

Popped a coolant fitting. Unfortunately, fairly common. There are a ton of threads and ways to fix. Since yours already popped, this may be an engine out fix. Get a list of things to do while its out. Good luck

RangerDick (Nice tag btw...), thank you for the comment - I have read a number of posts on this topic, and I just watched the guy from German Auto(s) video and I see the manifold is right on the back of the engine, whereas my leak (looking the rear) is on the right side. In fact, the left side and back of the engine was pretty dry.

I will lift the back end of the car up and fill it with water and follow the leak... really don't want to take the engine out right now.

Most likely the fitting going to the oil cooler. Near impossible to get to engine in

As others have mentioned, it's likely a coolant pipe fitting failure. This was my experience. It could be one of several.

Thanks 32Krazy and MDKelly, just my luck! After I located the cooling manifold on the back of the engine yesterday and noted it was pretty dry, I was starting to worry it was on top of the engine.

On the other hand, it gives me the opportunity to pin everything, swap out ALL the rubber hoses and install a new water pump and plenum.

One must always look to the positives, despite how much of a complete **** off that may be.

Upon searching the forum, it would appear that there are 18 hoses on the 996tt that need to be replaced. I found a reference to AWE for silicon hoses, but I cannot find anymore from their website. Are silicon cooling hoses available, or is it better to stick with the factory ones?

I saved this a while back, hope it helps.
May also want to check your clutch.

Thank you Sir, I have seen this. I do believe, due to the location of the coolant leak (right side of engine), I may very well use SharkWerks hard pipe fix. But... I will also pin the rest of the joints.

As the car is 15 years old, I intend to replace every hose on the car - counting the hoses on Pelican, I came up with 18...
