Well, I probably have to raise the grade to a B. Both fans are working. At 1800 rpm, blower on high, I get a drop from 80 down to 50 degrees F. Of course, that is sitting in the shade in my garage, still -- I guess its doing OK except for the LCD window. It just did not feel cold the other day, like I said, the old Camry blows ice cubes.

Check the freon level yourself or have it done by a pro. You might have a little too much or too little in there.

I keep forgetting, here in CA the air is so dry - the cooling sensation when feeling the cold air coming out of the register is less dramatic. One of the big benefits of AC in humid climates is the moisture extraction, here not so much. When I checked it last evening, the low side return pipe in the engine compartment was getting wet and was cold to the touch. I think I will just leave it alone unless something obvious happens down the road. I may be developing 14-year-old car paranoia.

I agree, leaving it alone is probably best.

Might clean the condensers and radiators - airflow over the condenser makes a huge difference.

Mine blows very cold at highway speed even when it's 90+ degrees. However, when I'm driving aggressively (most of the time) I would rate mine a C at best.

I used a laser thermometer on mine the other day, after coming home with AC on and 90 degree day. On the center vent, coldest I saw was 39 degrees f. I would say that's pretty cold. That's at the surface of the vent/inner supply hose. The vehicle had been on outside air and the fan at 3 bars from bottom. Car had run for about 25 mins after sitting in the sun for 12+ hours. When I started the car, the interior was well over 110 degrees f, having sat outside all day with only the front windshield sun shade up. Windows closed, no sunroof vent. Hope this helps. Sounds like you need an AC service. The car's not living up to its potential.

Just saw you are posting from Commie California. It has become prohibitively expensive to self service your AC here. You can no longer purchase the old, common, single puncture cans of R134a available in the rest of the country. What used to be a 5 dollar fix, now will cost over $40.00 bucks to buy a California compliant filler nozzle and detachable R134a supply of freon. Before this crazy law went into effect, I already owned a pierce type filler and ordered R134a cans via ebay. I could get 12 - 12oz cans of R134a for about 50 bucks. Might want to consider putting a can into the system and see if it blows colder. That could indicate a very small leak.

That would make sense because the AC compressor disengages at high revs and/or full throttle.

Thanks for all the input, I'm actually OK with the way it works, we don't drive it that often, plus the top is down whenever feasible. I don't run the AC while topless. I was trying to gauge mine relative to the crowd. Looks like I might be a bit below par but still acceptable for now. Don't get me started on CA laws. I picked up a 30 pound bottle of 134a a while back, used it on the Suburban rebuild, so still plenty left if I need it. Cheers

You've eliminated the fans (as a cause), but I thought I'd mention my experience. The A/C worked great from day one for the past nine years, equal to any new car. Then a few months ago, the air temp inside the car began to vary from the normal ice cold air to "cool" air from the vents, generally noticeable at low speeds or sitting in traffic, but not always so. I wanted that consistent ice cold air I had come to expect.

The source of the problem, after considerable trouble-shooting, was that the right fan was on its way out (working intermittently), thus decreasing the air flow. Replaced the fan and the system works as it did when new, delivering consistent ice cold air.
