Linking this picture from the thread on engine removal.... Great view of the steel version of the cross brace in place.

A small legal disclaimer in out litigious society, the TT cross brace is steel due to the portly weight of the 996TT so as with any mods, use the aluminum one at your own peril..

My Al brace arrived last week... What's everyone's favorite 'kinda grungy cast aluminum' cleaner? No easy access to a blast cabinet.

I'm no engineer, but the Porsche dealer parts lookups show the Turbos needing 997-331-061-00 ($536) - "Turbo W/O GT2", while the 911's get 997-331-261-02 ($200). I'm guessing Porsche is still calling out the steel version for Turbos. The same holds true up through 2008 models. That is as far as I went. Am I paranoid? Seems there must be a reason the steel versions are still shown for the Turbos only.

It's 110Nm for the 4 bolts that attach the crossmember to the side carriers and slightly less at 100Nm for the diagonal brace to crossmember (the TT one is 110 since the bolt is going into steel)

You frequently see replies in other modification threads along the lines of 'so you think you're smarter than a Porsche engineer?' But Porsche engineers heel to several masters... Cost, regulatory, performance, marketing, etc. and often their choices aren't driven by 'best'.
