Linking this picture from the thread on engine removal.... Great view of the steel version of the cross brace in place.

Nobody ever considers the driver for weight loss. Cut out the carbs!

Or a driver could just keep the gas tank at or below half full and save ~50 lbs or more versus having a full tank of gas.

For those into using specified torque values when doing the part swap, please see attached.

It's 110Nm for the 4 bolts that attach the crossmember to the side carriers and slightly less at 100Nm for the diagonal brace to crossmember (the TT one is 110 since the bolt is going into steel)

A small legal disclaimer in out litigious society, the TT cross brace is steel due to the portly weight of the 996TT so as with any mods, use the aluminum one at your own peril..

My Al brace arrived last week... What's everyone's favorite 'kinda grungy cast aluminum' cleaner? No easy access to a blast cabinet.

Zep 505 works well with a wire brush. Wear a respirator when doing it.

I'm no engineer, but the Porsche dealer parts lookups show the Turbos needing 997-331-061-00 ($536) - "Turbo W/O GT2", while the 911's get 997-331-261-02 ($200). I'm guessing Porsche is still calling out the steel version for Turbos. The same holds true up through 2008 models. That is as far as I went. Am I paranoid? Seems there must be a reason the steel versions are still shown for the Turbos only.

No question Porsche had some reason for putting in the steel version, and no one should ever modify their cars in a way their not comfortable with, but it's a bit hard to logically reason why it would be important on a Turbo, but not GT2 and not a 997 C4S...

You frequently see replies in other modification threads along the lines of 'so you think you're smarter than a Porsche engineer?' But Porsche engineers heel to several masters... Cost, regulatory, performance, marketing, etc. and often their choices aren't driven by 'best'.
