Default Got my 2003 996tt... but

Received my 996tt last week and drove one day before my front end started making noise. (Right front) Pulled the wheel off and everything is tight. Did a little research and it might be HR coilover bearing. Would like to replace the bearing only. Recommendations?
Both front?
Anyone recommend anywhere I can source the bearing on both front coilovers?

I had two independent shops complete a PPI and one was a Porsche dealership. Both Missing it or just a new problem.
Bummed a bit. Can't drive the beast.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Regards
Rob

If you are referring to the thrust bearing on the top of the coil spring, they are easy to disassemble clean and put back together. A little harder to get them out and back in. Not a problem driving with them creaking, it won't hurt anything.

Thanks for the reply. The noise is more than a creak. Almost sounds like solid noise but, car is great driving on straight aways without bumps on the road.
Thanks

More like a chunk/clunk noise going over bumpy spots on the road. The noise is only on the right front. Sounds like something is loose when going over the bumps but, I checked and everything is tight.

Thanks in advance!

I had an awful noise from the front last year and it was a wheel bearing , I'd look into that too.

Inspect sway bar link. It may appear secured but if slightly loose will clunk over bumps

Thanks for the replies! I'll check my sway bar and wheel bearing the morning.

Ric Brooklyn, are you from BKLYN? I'm originally from Brooklyn.

Thanks again

I lived in Brooklyn for a few years, including the time when I signed up for rennlist. Not originally from there though...

Gotcha. What part of Brooklyn? I'm heading there in the summer. I'm retired USAF.

Sounds like the strut mounts are shot. Pretty sure those H&R use the OEM mounts.

When I first bought my car I had a front end rattle/clunk, what you're explaining sounds similar. I could only hear it at low speeds, like on a bumpy road in town traffic. I replaced the drop links first since one of the ball joints had play to no avail. The top nut on the struts which you can access through the black caps in the frunk ended up being under-torqued, I'd suggest trying this before replacing the bearings. The specified torque is 59 ft-lbs for the stock strut assembly, but you may want to check if your H&R's specify something different.

Thanks for all replies! After thoroughly inspecting my week old 2003 996tt I located the suspect bad part. The front right coilover needs to be replaced.
Can someone please recommend a source to purchase both front coilovers?

Thanks in advance!

Rob

Prefer replacing only the bearing. Thanks!

Hi. I have a 02tt. I had the same issue with my left front. Original strut with 30,000km. Everything is tight but the knocking noise over small bumps. I replace the strut bearing and zip tied all the coolant pipes. The noise went away. Then after a long drive it came back. I found the main bolt securing the strut to the hub was loose. Torqued it down noise, noise gone. This weekend I go to the countryside on some horrible roads the noise came back but only on the worst bits. On the highway and back in the city, no noise. My mechanic is suggesting the strut could be defective. How did you find out the your coilover is defective? I suspect you mean the strut unit itself and not the spring.
Btw, I used to live in Brooklyn. Eastern Pkwy, then Bushwick,

Took the wheel off and put a jack with a block of wood under the lower control arm. Pump up the jack while bleeding it down at the same time. I put my hand on the top strut tower and you can hear and feel the play/clunk.
