Pretty ridiculous statement about jake raby. The m96 is a piece of junk every which way. While just about every engine porsche builds has serious issues, the m96 is by far the worst.
No, I'll be more clear, the engineers take into account, when designing the engine, the dissimilar metal expansion rates and that has been the case since the first VW engine designed by Dr. Porsche in the 30's, and well before that in general metallurgy.

They have issues yes, i.e. IMS, but blanket statements like they are all junk and you can't drive them in the cold are the ridiculous statements.

and thats fine, but it seems they didn't put much thought into cylinders ovaling, especially given the alusil.

If the IMS was the only issue, it would be a non issue as there are excellent replacements. But you then have cylinders cracking, heads cracking, oil pump keys breaking, plastic chain guides disintegrating, as well as the glorious bore scoring. That doesn't address the oil starvation issues at the track.

Sure the M96 can be used in the cold so long as you are very particular about how you use it and when you start to get on the gas...and even then, you may still end up with scored bores. I think the problem with the M96 is that even with the best care, preventative maintenance, and gentle usage, you may still have any of these issues. Its just an expensive gamble. And I've had a m96 fail in my boxster.

2. Jake Raby is a fear monger who stirs up these types of things for business. It's just part of his business strategy.
Incorrect. Thanks to another vendor hater.

I report what I see first hand, and I don't sugar coat it. I call it, as I see it dozens of times per year as it passes through my doors.

Well, I used to... Today I just keep the info to myself, and the line forms at the door. Why? Well, because divulging the info leads to haters just like the person who made this statement.

Yeah the Jake Raby commment wasn’t right. The guy is Crazy smart when it comes to m96/m97. I would have used his engine for my c4s if I did t get such a good offer on my car. Plus... the sound of 400 horse from a boxer 6 out of a Porsche thats as reliable as his engines... eargasm

As much as I want to, I can't bring myself to do it. My turbo is just too nice.

I would however consider a second daily driver turbo, with fewer options and I'd drive the wheels off of it. ski rack too!
