WTB: 996 Turbo
I've exhausted my search (RL, Pelican,PCA, CL, Autos.com, AutoTrader, AutoTempest, CarGurus) and figured I'd post here to see if anyone was thinking of parting with their car. Seems like just a few months ago there were 2-3 new TTs a week popping up in the Vehicle Marketplace.
Looking for an 02-05 996 Turbo (I like cupholders and glove boxes), stock to lightly modified preferred. Shooting for something in the 50-70k mile range. I am in SoCal, so mostly interested in driving distance cars (250-300 miles, so LA, OC, SD, SF, AZ, LV). Cash buyer, looking in the 40-43k range, depending on the car.
No black, everything else is fair game. No tips/cabs.
Appreciate any leads!

996 Turbos are hot cars right now, and that's a pretty tough ask... If you find one that fits your criteria and isn't cosmetically or mechanically challenged or carfax blem'ed, consider yourself extraordinarily lucky in the current market. A year or so ago, no problem, but not now unless the market shifts notably.
Realistically, you will likely need to either bump your price-point to $48-$50K or your mileage to 85K+ if you want an otherwise clean, no issues car that matches the rest of your criteria...
That said, good luck in your search. You need to be checking every source every day, because if a car like that does pop up, it will be GONE in a flash.

Thanks. I am checking multiple times a day, every day.
It it seemed like even a few months ago there were a handful of cars that sold and were listed at 45, which I would think some haggling had to occur.
Regardless, the search goes on. I’ve found a few higher miles cars (97-109k) for $35-39k and some lower mile cars (40-50k) for $47-48k listed right now.
I just need that sweet spot car right in between those.

edit: is 100k even something to worry about in an otherwise well sorted car?

Mezger engines are very robust and can easily go well past 100K.... That said, there might be a bunch of other maintenance required at 100k that can add up in cost.

It is a bit "off season" now. More cars will come onto the market around March/April.

Availability will improve in the spring, but even last spring wasn't as good as the one before. I bought mine remotely without seeing or driving it, didn't haggle, and was glad I bought as nothing better came on the market all summer. Just my experience!

That sounds like a nice one, the price point on it is a bit curious given where they have their tips priced, would expect it to be higher for the X50 6sp, even accounting for the mileage differences.

the three or 4 non x 50 been there a few weeks. X50 brand new. I was curious about the low price too. Won’t last if for real.

I saw that park place Seattle listing as well... Then I checked some of there recent reviews. Life's too short to deal with dealerships that make life difficult.

Not speaking for all dealers, but these types of places always give me the "museum" vibe vs an auto sales lot. Many times they're priced way on the top of the range but offer fewer details to back that price up. Cars that have been through a few auctions, one key, no manuals/paperwork/floor mats. Again, not all dealers, but many give this vibe off. They'll sit on the same car for 6 months but not entertain a price adjustment.

I've read here previously that they don't negotiate on price, and were resistant to outside PPIs, having their own shop etc. YMMV!
