I own an 02-996tt with 30,000km with a $40,000 car loan.
Recently 2 high mile 120,000km, 01 996tt came on the market, one of which has a complete engine rebuild from Porsche. Both cars asking price is $36,000. Dealers here have offered me $40-50k for my car. I think retail is about $60k
I tend to drive them hard and mod my cars, usually suspension, brakes, bigger turbos etc. I rarely circuit race.
Should I trade my low mileage garage queen for a high mileage car, pocket the difference and have fun?
Or be sensible keep the garage queen as long term investment?
The 996tt was bought the take some attention off my 930 which I still call on to satisfy that itch.
The third option is mod and play with my rough but drivable 951.
What say yee?
The first pic is mine second pic is a high miler.

Yes. Sell it. Take the proceeds and buy BitCoins.

Mod yours in a reversible way and drive the snot out of it for many miles.
Then you can return it to "stock" and still have relatively low miles and get top dollar for a "stock" one.
Always better to start with a know entity.

SImple if you need cash sell it, if not keep it.
Thats a huge mileage diff and getting the higher mileage up to snuff may take your profit bubble and pop it. You then have essentially the same car with higher mileage and will get sub $35k usd when/if you try to unload it.

Dealers offers are all over the map as well. Is 4-5$k really worth the hassle...

i did much the same thing, but it was an insurance payout so i was "forced" into it.
i traded into a higher milage 03 from my wrecked and paid for 02 and pocketed over 25k and within 2 weeks had ANOTHER ( modded ) 996TT. plus the 03 was modded with stuff i would've had to buy anyway.. plus i knew the seller well and he even gave me a limited time "good faith warranty".
im glad i did, though i sometimes miss the pristine condition of the 02. still I've tacked on approx 80/90k miles on the trade, and the car is flawless mechanically with ( now ) 150k miles.
do your highly "due" diligence and if it "feels right"? i say: go for it.

Drive your car and enjoy it, unless you are talking about irreversible mods.

Some guys including my GT2's previous owner, bought these things at 160-186k dollars and mod'd them. Your $100k ahead and only have 20k miles......just getting warmed up. I'm voting for "KNOWN COMMODITY" and keep what you love and modify it in a reversible manner if resale is important to you. By the look of my cars, I vote for enjoy over leave stock.

Thanks for the input. I thought I would enjoy the tiptronic. Buuuuutt. When I bought the 996tt I was given a screaming deal $50k with 24000km, I was leaning towards a black 997tt with 80000km for the same money. Recently another dealer offer me a low mileage 997tt for just $10 with a trade in.
Honestly I feel a little awkward driving super clean like new cars. Guess I need to get over myself and just drive them.
I guess I'll mod the 996 till it feel more like the 930. At highway speed the 930 feels more stable. The 996 feel twitchy. And I'm tired of bleeding the rear spoiler. Here it cost $2000 just for the gt2 lid plus paint. Shipping it from the US will cost $1300 plus paint.

I would only do it if I needed the money to invest in something else. You won't lose any more money on the 996tt as it is.
