Do you normally change all the clamps with the coolant hoses?

Absolutely, especially if they are the original spring type clamps.

Surprised no one has mentioned a GT2 clutch slave conversion...

And if you want to upgrade, a Guard limited slip diff. And if your replacing the clutch, might as well upgrade.

Most shops would just drop the tranny, not the engine, for transmission repairs, but even with just dropping the transmission, those "while your in there" repairs and upgrades can get expensive!

Just to close the loop on this post, I just got my car back from the shop. The transmission wound up getting 1st and 2nd gear synchronizers and a new 2nd gear. Everything else was checked and found to be okay. The transmission work cost me $5.3K which was less than the $6k reduction I agreed to because of the problem. While it was In the shop I also replaced the plugs and coils, water pump and thermostat, all CV boots, belt, main bearing seal, clutch accumulator, clutch, pressure plate and bearing, and changed/flushed all fluids. I decided to wait on the coolant pipes since we didn't remove the engine. It was in the shop about a month and my indy shipped the transmission to Cog's Cogs in Georgia for the transmission work.

I drove the car about 50 miles on the way home and it shifts flawlessly. Overall I'm very happy with how things turned out. Next week I'm getting new tires put on and I should be ready for the road.
