Yes i agree, on Millers front straight 160-165 every lap so you could hit 160+ 50 times in one trackday and then going from full throttle to full braking into turn one. Doesn't really feel that fast. I redlined my turbo in 5th gear 7200 got there real quick and felt very stable. Would have been about 180mph. It seems I've been told at this road rally that they limit your speed until you move up in class and experience. To win you're trying to hit your average speed dictated by class for over the distance without going over for your class that you're in.

the car was built to go the "distance" at speed. but if the OP is entertaining the notion of speeds nearing or exceeding trip digits above, say 150?

have a race prep shop prepare your car. or leave a will. as vasek polak did, in his test drive of a 993 turbo. that ends well, but only for the beneficiaries of said "will".

The fastest I have gone was 165, but lost my nerve to try to go any faster.

From a statistics stand point the OP is at a higher risk of injury or death due to a car accident while driving on the the public roads and highways on his way to the event than participating in the event. Risk is relative, and in this scenario speed is almost a non-factor.

Speed never killed anyone, it is suddenly coming to a stop that gets you.

That makes sense to me. Still I would treat visits to hi trip digit speeds no differently than I would a track event.

Check everything first.

Hitting a high speed, then immediately slowing back down is much different from sustained high speed.
I've been much faster on 2 wheels, than 4, but did top my car out in 5th, indicated 158 IIRC.

So OP you are willing to pay almost $2000 for a single 4 mile run at speed? I know it's a charity event, but frankly I'd just get up a 5am on a Sunday morning and find a truly empty stretch of interstate...

If you get tagged by the PoPo at ludicrous speeds like that, it is a safe bet that you will go straight to jail, not to mention the tickets, car impound, court costs, insurance raise, etc. All that would exceed 2k for sure. I would probably get fired as well. If he has 2k to spend, then hell yeah. I say do it.

Agreed, buying track time or closed course time is aways cheaper in the end.

The risk of injury or death increases with increased speed.

It does, but pretty much everything we do is dangerous. There is a greater possibility that some drunk driver hits you than getting yourself killed by driving at 200 mph for a few seconds.

I’ve been at 200 mph 40-50 times, probably more. It’s fun and it’s done rather quick with a good car. The 996 Turbo is one of those perfectly suited ones.

General FYI, a stock manual X50 does 200+ mph tacho speed with no problem at all. I felt that there is more to give but gearing/rev limiter puts an end to it.

An increase in speed in and of itself is not necessarily more risky. Level of risk is relative. So what scenario are you basing your increase in risk?

This thread seems to have taken a hard left turn at about 180MPH, I'm out...

Be safe out there at upper triple digit speeds, regardless of our varying perceptions of risk!
