Default Spoiler failure

Passenger side spoiler ram failed this weekend. I'm not mad, it's just a rite of passage right?

I don't know about a "right of passage" (sic) - but if it eases the sting then call it whatever you want.

Now you just have to figure out what you want to do about it. Mine failed about 8 months ago and I had thought about adding the eRam kit but the $1800-ish price tag stopped me. To me, it's too much money to spend to just have my spoiler go up and down. Others have thought differently of course.

I'm going to disconnect the passenger side ram today, I'll almost certainly do the eRam kit at some point but having just spent $,$$$ on Blizzaks and not doing any high speed driving on those I don't need the spoiler up for now.

I was the same way for several months. My advice is to bite the bullet and buy the eRam. It is money well spent.

Consider a rebuild of stock too.
Mine is intermittent with a failure but I'll keep it stock or do my GT2 wing,

What do you mean "failed"? Did it just start leaking and is not traveling as high as it should be? You could try the stop leak method which will only cost you a couple $ and some time.

Driver side goes up, passenger side doesn't, and error code. I've read a bit about the stop leak method, I like to tinker with things especially when they're already broken. My car is a daily driver though, is the car driveable while I mess around with the pump and rams?

I should add, the ram has had a slow seep for months but everything worked until now.

Well, if the passenger ram does not move *at all*, then that must be one heck of a leak (or an issue with that half of the spoiler electric motor) and the stop leak method may not help.

It only takes an afternoon. A helper is nice to have, but not totally necessary. If it's had a slow seep for a while, it's probably low on fluid.

Maybe you should read the owners manual! Porsche specifically states the the spoiler must be deplyed for safety ovet 75 mph. Dont think they threw that in for no reason. Obviously it provides enough downforce for high speed handling.

Stock rear spoiler is really just for show. It generates a whopping 9 kg (20 lb) of downforce at 190 mph. At 75 mph, that number decreases to mere 1.4 kg (3 lb).

Talking

Go to the hardware store and pick up a metric threaded rod and some nuts.

More fun when it is up all the time!

The numbers you have are correct, but the wing also negates quite a bit of rear end lift besides just generating downforce. The Porsche engineers knew what they were doing.

Guys, I have a solution for rebuilding failed lift cylinders.. Take your leaking cylinder off and send it to me for repair. I have redesigned the internal hydraulic cylinder cartridge with new CNC components. The new design allows for future seal replacements. And improves the upper thrust/bore>> ie reinforced to withstand the side loading to protect the internal sealing orings.
The cost for the repair is $248.00 per cylinder.

Please email me kevin@ultimatemotorwerks.com if you have further questions.
