What a terrible incident. Hope all involved are ok.
The ring is a cool track to visit, but all tracks are dangerous. I've hit coolant and oil on track several times. If you do enough events, eventually you're likely to suffer some bad luck.For those of us in North America, I don't think the ring is bucket list worthy. There are some great and rather long tracks around here that are less of a headache to get to, and you won't have to put up with public traffic...

Oh I don't know about that. The Ring is special. It is worth the trip IMO. There are 24 Hour races in the US as well - but there is only one Le Mans. And that is worth the trip too.
Don't think of the Nürburgring as a track if you go there for the tourist sessions. Think of it the way the organizers describe it: the worlds most beautiful, one-way country road. :-p
