Are you missing the engine compartment light that may have been attached to it?

You bet, I have both front and rear one's unplugged because I've killed the battery a time or two.
Hope you're having fun in the new ride!

Yup. I have the front light unplugged, as I often have my frunk up for longer periods of time. I sure wish it would time out and go off like it does in 9x7 models.

Mine (2003) goes out eventually, about an hour or so. Also just replaced front and rear with led that draw much less power. It a 44mm festoon bulb. Note the rear one gets wet, so a sealed bulb is a good idea.

Maybe that was another of the minor 996 MkII Turbo tweaks... Pretty sure my 2001 frunk bulb will stay on forever (or until the battery is dead!)

From my experience the lights will stay on as long as the frunk and/or the decklid is ajar and the car is unlocked. If you lock the car with either of them open, the lights will go out in less than 10 minutes.

One of my indies popped the trunk light out while working on the car... guess they have lots of experience.

Mine also stays on and when the front is open, I have the bulb pulled, I notice the engine bay is on even if it's shut when the front is open.

Replace the standard bulbs with led and the power drawer is a lot less.
