Is it a bit early for the clutch to slip?

Car has 40k miles, bought it with 28k. Stock X50. When in 4th gear, if I mash the throttle the RPMs go up fast but the car doesn't accelerate much at all, which I take as textbook clutch slippage sign.
Isn't 40k a bit too soon for the clutch to start puking though?

I am having this same issue. I need a clutch it appears. The accumulated is leaking for sure, I guess replacing this $115 part will not fix it?
wishfull thinking??...
Kevin, sounds like I need a clutch? Can you help a Texan out?
Cheers, Mat

If you are staying stock you can get a Sachs GT2 clutch kit and new flywheel for under $1k on rock auto. The parts are Sachs packaged by LUK. I've been running this combo for 10k miles now without issue. I have a Tune and stock k16.

Both purchased and shipped for $915, not bad. Be here Wends.
My car has a tune and exhaust so hopefully this should be good.
Thanks again for your help, much appreciated.

At three times the cost I don't see the point of the 2.5 clutch with a tune and exhaust. Your barely making more power than a gt2. But if you want to go big turbos or drag race then yes spend the extra grand. With labor my clutch replacement cost less then the 2.5 kit and flywheel.

there's no definitive way to determine if you'll need a new flywheel until you are able to see how much of the "dual mass" remains.
so, unless you know what you want to do vis a vis "upgrading" or remaining oem? you'll have to take your chances until the clutch parts are removed and inspected. then, you can decide.
add: and to the previous posters point re: sachs 2.5(?) which isn't that big a deal over the oem. vs stock. i run a ( fairly new ) stock sachs oem w/ gt2 unsprung disc ( better ) with approx 550/575 rwhp. no issues at all. but then, i do not abuse the clutch.

How much should I expect to pay in labor for the the clutch/flywheel installed?
