Default Laser Shifters / Jammers - Lidatek vs Escort

Hi folks - I need some advice. My turbo cab arrives in a few weeks and I've narrowed down my laser shifter search to either a Lidatek or an Escort SRX-1.

First - does anyone have any opinions on the relative merits?

Second - I can't find the Lidatek LE - 30 or LE - 35 -- I would have thought they'd be in production by now. Does anyone know anything about the next gen Lidatek?

Thanks,
MMH

The best source I could find was www.radartest.com. I'm having the SRX installed on my new tt.

Not only is Lidatek coming out with an upgraded to the LE-20 (probably to be called LE-30), they are also coming out with a second generation to the LE-10 (probably called the LE-35). From what I understand, both models will come with a higher sensitivity reciever than the LE-20. The LE-30 will use similiar 'stealth' technology as in the current LE-20... slipping in a few extra return lazer pulses to screw up the lazer gun's ability to measure your speed. The LE-35 uses the machine gun approach to totally over power the lazer gun. This is a more effective jamming technique, but also an obvious jamming situation from the officer's perspective. Not good where illegal to own a lazer jammer. I was told both models will be available in a "couple of months".

Both models should be available in a month (before year end). They have a new website that will be up and running as soon as the products are available. Check here LIDATEK

I understand radartest.com is funded by Escort.

V1 rules....all the rest are **** (relatively). I have had it head to head with K40's, Escorts, etc and it wasn't even close. V1 sensed radar at least 1-2 seconds before any of the others.

I do have the Escort shifter (laser jammer) installed, but other than false alarms when driving behind a GMC Envoy I couldn't tell you if it works or not.

MJC I'm confused. If you have both units, put the V1 in the car with the escort and let’s see how they compare. Which escort do you have?

I have never found confirmation that Escort "funds" radartest. Their data is generally consistent with many other testers (auto mags).

I only have the Escort laser jammer (model zr-1 I think) - does not include the radar detector. Have had the V1 up against the SRX in another car (m5) and there was just no comparison. Other drivers on the Gumball last year had every other type of detector, and the V1 blew them away.

But hey, someone's gotta keep those citty coffer's full, so go for the escort

FYI, I had an Passport 8500 and ran it side by side with a V1 in my 993 for a number of weeks. The 8500 was a pos by comparison and false-alarmed way too often...never bothered using it again and instead just transferred the V1 from car to car. I'm still trying to decide on a laser shifter but am unable to get a general consensus as to which is the better unit

Just my own personal experience and $0.02....

Hey guys, I'm willing to change! David, did you have real good data and time with both units? My biggest problem with the V1 is you can't hide it and a cop is going to be much less likely to let you walk if he sees your electronics all over the place!

The V1 has a remote display option so then the issue is hiding the main unit (my remote display is in the ashtray for now, so all I do is close the ashtray). If you have a coupe the best option IMHO is to create a dummy box in the rear which would enclose or mimic a third brake light....with a cab, you'd have to make a dummy box upfront near the rearview mirror. I have a cab so I've been looking at a front mounted solution, and there's a Rennlister on the 993 board who was speaking to a stereo shop about fabricating one...no resolution yet. Since there are so many more 996 owners than 993 ones I think you'd be able to get these made cheaper as you can amortize the development cost.

I don't have hard data but the V1 would always alert a few seconds before the Passport on valid alarms. You can always order a V1 and try out risk free for 30 days I think. The directional arrows is a big plus IMO....with the Passport I was always looking semi-panicked around whenever it went off...with the V1 if I get and alarm and the arrow points to the side I can tell right away its a false alarm.

We've been installing the Lidatek LE20s in our cars for a couple of years now. Can't wait for the LE30 series. They work great, I've never had a laser ticket with them, and none of my customers have had problems with the units.

I run it in conjunction with a Whistler DE3300 built in. Never had a ticket, very little falsing, compact size.

Glad you like it. That is the Lidatek LE-20 as sold in the U.K.
