Default TOYO R888R road trip review

New Toyo Proxes R888R 255-35-18 & 315 -30-18 review.

Drove from NJ to Lime Rock Park CT. over Labor day on them to the vintage racing festival. Tallied up over 400+ miles on dirt roads, severe heavy rains & dry roads.

In the rain top speed was ~ 56-60 mph before they started to hydro plane & move around left to right a few inches.

Dry was perfect. They do make moderate noise but as the miles accumulated they make less noise. Could still have a conversation ,listen to music etc.
If u have a loud x-pipe u wont even hear the tire noise.

The ride is comfortable on a street car even with heavy spring coil overs.

Turn in & grip levels are excellent even when cold.

I will buy them again once they wear out.

50- 60 MPH is pretty dam good on secondary roads in the rain with standing water.

Sundays forecast was for heavy rain @ Lime Rock CT. I chose to drive to test them out. They wont leave u stranded if it starts to rain when ur away from home. The new R888R is more than adequate in rain conditions.

The toyo R888 isnt so bad in the rain, wehn its just wet. All semi tires suck, when you ride over standing water.
What rim size you ride in the front? What offset? thx in advance.

i drove the michelin cup1 in the rain. That was way more scary. Guess the toyo is softer than the cup1.

Anybody tried the R888R after using Cup2? They are finally making this tire for 20", which is the only wheel I can fit over my front brake calipers!!

The tire guys need to realize there are so many more 20" guys out there now with the new hardware, cool to see someone regularly tracking a 991t.
Seen a couple at PR here, but none regularly,

Hoosier is saying they are finally going to make R7 in 20", but I will believe it when I see it. This R888R may be a better solution for early/late season events. Hoping somebody has compared them with other tires, even in 19" or 18". Cup2 have served me well, but I know there is plenty more time to find with a more focused track tire. The TTS is blistering fast, but the grip is the limiting factor at VIR and Road Atlanta, especially front grip on tight turn ins with 245mm front tires on a 3500 pound car.
