I would make 3 recommendations (similar to what LexVan has mentioned)

1) Invest in equipment and ask for help to change your own oil> at a minimum learn how to install a new oil filter. Very easy and cheap to accomplish.

2) Drain the oil that is in your engine crankcase. You will have 2.5 to 3 quarts. This oil is important. Call Blackstone labs for a oil test kit or visit your local CAT dealer. They will provide you with test containers. Purchase Mobil 1 5W50 and refill 2.5 to 3 quarts of oil.
Do this ASAP. We want to get a baseline test. We also want a thicker oil. It's hot right now..

3)Depending on what Blackstone says (post the results on Rennlist or email them to me and I will give you my opinion). Regardless, I would change the oil and filter in 1000 miles. I'd be putting in Mobil 5W50 Order it if you have to ahead of time.. There has been some sale promotions.

As Wross has eluded too>> Testing will determine which part of the engine is failing. Bearings, or hardened steel, and or aluminum.
Thanks! Working on it!

Start taking your car someplace else. Start doing used oil analysis. Do another oil change in 1,000 miles. Don't use Mobil 0W40.
👍 Will do!

Yes, I thought it would be a long shot.

Hi Jpflip, when Rennlister "Kevin" enters a room, it's best to sit back, grab a beer, and listen. Remind yourself that you are "grasshopper" and he is the "master".

I've always said, we don't need to know everything Porsche, we just need to know those people who do.

I'm not going to turn Marc Nyarko's thread into another 'oil war'. But your answers are already given. Observe & enjoy.

Take care!

try not to drink all the kool aid. jpflip isnt a rookie who doesnt know a crescent wrench from a muffler bearing. he is quite knowledgeable and asked a simple question which apperently you arent able to answer. in fact you advise the o/p to drive it another 1000 miles when you dont know what the glitter in the oil is. this could burn the crank, rods and possibly the liners and pistons when its more prudent to send a sample to blackstone to see what the particulate is then decide whether or not to drive it. if its crank bearing material then you certainly want to tear it down and save the internals rather than drive the car

Get over yourself, already!

I'm sure Jpflip has big-boy pants and can speak for himself.

Here are 7 reason why (to use Mobil 5W50) in NO particular order:

1) Kevin says so
2) Porsche A40 approved
3) Inexpensive- Napa runs 3-4 sales/year
4) Stays in Spec (shear) longer than Mobil 0W40
5) Great SUS viscosity at 210F
6) Great cSt viscosity at 100C
7) Easy to find (Napa and Amazon)

thats 6 reasons to use 5-50 but not a single reason NOT to use 0-40

kevin say so? really? the world record holder for the texas mile for porsche says to use 10-50. should that be used as a standard as well?

An oil thread! Excellent!

How did we go so long without one?
