There are some shops that rebuild the mechanicals of the rear spoiler. You send it in and get it back repaired.

This shop does. Call them, they don't advertise on their site but do do the rebuild.

I usually consult the Porsche press archives for these kinds of things since their marketing materials usually enumerate almost all the big changes. 2002 is the biggest set of changes, most of which have been touched on already

http://press.porsche.com/archive/pro...002/index.html

The 911 Turbo adds an optional engine enhancement performance package that increases power to 450-horsepower and 457 lb.-ft of torque. It will be available later in the model year. In addition, the 911 Turbo adds a standard Bose® high-end digital audio system with six-channel amplifier, 12 speakers and a subwoofer module. In addition, the 911 Turbo adds new front seat belt pretensioners and force limiters to its extensive roster of safety technology, and the trunk now includes an anti-entrapment release with internal handle. New comfort and convenience features includeauto-dimming inside and outside mirrors and rain sensor windshield wipers. Interior enhancements include redesigned center vents, while matte-surface switches improve tactile feel. A new lockable glovebox adds to interior storage, and the center dash gains an integral cupholder. The keys have a color Porsche Crest®. New exterior colors include Black, Basalt Black Metallic and Carrera White.

It's good that if some evil person manages to stow a 2 year old in the trunk, he can let himself out thanks to the internal handle.

From my research and speaking with some knowledgeable people, all MY01 Turbos have the same stiffened chassis as MY02 Turbos, but MY01 Carreras do not have the chassis revision... The chassis stiffening was part of the 996.2 refresh and all turbos were built on the 996.2 chassis, which didn't carry over to the standard models until MY02-- which is where this confusion comes from.

But didn't the stiffened chassis accompany the center console changes and the new cup holder?

I think it was actually the bracing added to support the glovebox that must have done all the stiffening

Not to beat a dead horse, but just for yucks read through this thread.

https://rennlist.com/forums/996-turb...fferences.html

The 996 chassis went through two or more phases of "stiffening". There was stiffening done for the original MY 2000 turbo then sometime mid MY 2001, (the best we could figure was cars built after March 2001), the chassis was "stiffened" again.

Yes it was further improved to facilitate the intro of the cab and reinforce the seat belt retention.
But 01 turbo was improved over the 996.1. How much no one knows as it wasn`t published.
Many of us captured the main improvement before here in photos. Rear seats have a tube that runs through the seat pan area, early turbo 00 do not have it but later 01 have the tubing chassis change to accommodate the tube but the actual tube is missing. Some later 01 and 02+ then have the tube going through it.
Any roll cage or harness mount bar would be equivalent+ to it.

I wish someone who knows this info could create an easy excel table with 2001/2002/2003/2004/2005 headers and simple bullets... all would be solved then!!

Anybody whohas this information, willing to take this simple task? If not, maybe I'll invest the time to research all the changes then create it...

The added strengthening tubes that run along both sides of the roof line extend into the A pillar area.
