The way it should have been right out of the factory.
Well done!

Where are you all buying the 996 cup bumper from for this mod?

Default Heat Shielding

Sorry to bump an old thread but wondering what everyone who converted to center muffler set up and rear cup bumper uses for heat shielding? Options are to completely hack up the stock 996GT3 heat shield attached to the rear bumper bar or go a different route? Any advice is appreciated from those on this thread who have taken the plunge.

I just installed Dundon Motorsports long tube race headers and loud center muffler and am moving onto fitting and painting the Demon Speed cup car bumper.

I lined the inside of the bumper (post paint) with some DEI Reflect A Gold shielding, its been a few years now and no issues.

Kind of the same thing for me... I don't have the gold stuff.
Not putting in the reflective/insulating material will cause the paint to bubble by experience.

I'll have to look under mine. I don't remember. But, I've driven it hard for a long time, and have had no bubbling or discoloration issues. I did do the R&P since the last post, and that makes a BIG difference in acceleration.

This is awesome! Is that Dundun stuff? Looks amazing. As for the heat shields, I deleted the side ones and just installed the adhesive cup stuff on the inside. I was short though so I bought some auto zone stuff to fill in the gaps and it has performed fine. I think I even removed the center heat shield as well. On the north shore at the moment so I’ll have to check when I get home!

Thank you and yes this set up is Dundon Motorsports long tube race headers, non valved side muffler delete pipes and loud black center muffler. The exhaust sound is incredible but most importantly no more exploding mufflers at track events hopefully.

Always anxious with exhaust bolts/nuts as I’ve broken many studs on air cooled 930/911s. Helps to soak them with PB blaster or some penetrating oil, heat cycle them, repeat, and repeat again over a few days. Interesting Dundon supplies studs for the heads and some really cool serrated nuts so they can’t really back out when torqued properly. Very pleased with the exhaust sound compared to my previous set up- GMG racing X pipe with 200 cell cats, and GMG side mufflers which apparently they don’t make any longer.

Will you please post a video so we can hear the exhaust?
