Default Clutch Face to Engine Block Dimension

Hello Everyone,

I have a G96.50 gearbox I am going to use with the Audi V10 engine from the RS6. I am making an adapter and flywheel. The clutch I am using is the GT2 that is used with this gearbox.

I need a dimension from a 996 GT2. See attached image. Can anyone help.

Ray.

Looks like no one has this knowledge. Is there any other forum or place that may be able to answer this question.

I think you are overlooking some variables here.

that measurement you outline below is 36mm (+ or - 1) for a car equipped with a single mass flywheel.

Dual mass flywheel is obviously going to be different.

Hello Addict,

Thank you for the information.

Why would the dual mass be different. I would have thought the throw out leaver and slave cylinder push rod would need to be modified if the single mass was different.

I am no Porsche expert, but have replaced dual mass with single on Lexus engines and the single mass has the same clutch face distance, so no change needed to lever and push rod.

Single mass is thinner than the dual mass setup. That measurement you are looking for will be different between the two

The slave cylinder, rod for the slave and fork that actuates off of the slave are all the same parts no matter the flywheel.

The difference is in the length of the "arms" on the release bearing. The dual mass flywheel has very short arms on the release bearing. The single mass uses a release bearing with longer "arms" to offset the difference in thickness of the flywheel.

Guide tubes are also different lengths between single and dual mass setup.

All else is the same.

Don't have dual mass components or I would measure them for you.

Helpful information.

I am using a pressure plate for a single mass flywheel so will make sure I get the correct release bearing carrier, so your 36mm is correct.

Just for reference, pressure plates are all the same too from a dimension standpoint.

Here's the standard release bearing

Here's the throw out bearing for the LWFW with longer "arms"

Let me know if you need the DM measurements - have an old one at home tucked away.

I am not sure what is the correct dimension after talking to a company in Australia who build and race Porsche cars. They said the 36 mm sounded wrong and believed it was a lot less then this. If you could give me the DM measurement, I could workout the SM measurement.

I didn't pull those measurements from a manual, I crawled under the car and measured.

It's a little tough to see but the clutch surface is just a hair past that second ring gear. With light shining the best I could you can see the surface then the dark clutch material. Sorry, not pulling the pressure plate off its already in enough pieces as it is

Single mass vs dual mass. I can't remember if the back of the crank is flush with the block. So you'd have to measure the distance from the crank mounting point between the two.

Well....that looks like 36 mm to me. Picture tells it as it is.

Thank you, and sorry for the doubt.
