The seller did a lot of sweet work to get it inthis condition.

Agreed, its such a sweet, one of a kind car. Hard for me to rationalize it against 997.1 GT3 prices though.

Car ships to Seattle this weekend.

Too excited not to post these.

This is torture.

vandersmith,

Looks like you got a great deal. Car looks really clean for the miles. Enjoy!

PS. Buy a set of cup cables for your GT3. Part #: 996 424 040 75
FVD has them in stock for $644 on their site. Please note you will need to order one ball socket cable end separately since they come shipped exactly as shown in the pics.

ok, got the PPI results and only one thing that is giving me concern. The engine readout shows 196 range 1, 0 range 2. Which seems great, but the engine hours only reads 380. Car has 42k miles. Which if you do the math would be an average speed ~110 mph which seem improbable.

mechanics guess was that the DME has been replaced at some point in the past 10-20k miles. He said that isn’t unheard of to have one fail, but it means there is no way to figure out the true over rev readout.

Last owner was local, but I haven’t been able to get any info from him. He asked to see the listing before he answered any questions. When I sent it he didn’t reply.

This makes my spider sense tingle even a bit more.

Thoughts?

For a track car, should have 60,000+ Rev 1.
at 42k miles, that is about 1000hrs.

Like you said, DME could have been deleted/ replaced.

It is said to have tune, would that erase the hours?

Otherwise does a replacement seem plausible, or just a cheap way to cover up a seriously over revved engine?

BTW, here is the car before it got sold last time. If anyone recognizes it let me know.

Usually, if a car is running well for 100 hrs. after an over-rev, then the over-rev is not significant. Given the 380 hrs. on the report, any over-revs that may have occurred were a looong time ago, so I would not worry about that. Range 1 over-revs are not relevant to anything, other that to comment that this car has very few.

I believe that car was purchased from the Cape May area. Don't know much about it.

UDrive has a history of selling cars with over-revs. I cannot say if this car has any problems.

Best of Luck.

Thanks. Unless I get a better account of the history, or a fantastic deal, I think this gives me enough to say no thanks.

Wonder if they'd allow you to do a compression test and bore scope each cylinder?

I think so, but it's another $600, and I'm not sure I want to invest much more in this car.

if spidey is tingling, back away.
you'll probably never know about the over revs and any issue down the road will make you kick yourself.

You know, there are people who can reset DME data, inlcuding overrev counts. Costs about $500, I'm told.

Tests to Do

Do a compression and leak down. Boroscope when spark plugs are out. This will tell you about rings, pistons, valves, etc. Should be about $350.

Check cam deviation. If severely over-revved, the cam deviation will be high; means stretched chains, worn tensioners and guides, etc., This costs $25 (read with Durametric when pulling codes)

The average speed on the car should be about 30 MPH. At 42 K. miles, car should have about 1400 running hours. If it is much different, it has been tampered with.

I agree to go with your gut instinct if something is giving you a bad feeling. It usually is.

As for winter deals, 6 GT3s are becoming seriously rare. There are less than 10 for sale in all of North America, including a bunch of collector-grade cars that will not be driven on a track. I am not sure that prices are much lower at this time of year. In fact, this is the time to buy a track/race car. Gives you time to sort it out before the season starts.

I hope it all works out. Mine is an absolute blast, but it took me time and money to sort it out.
