I don't have the pictures and he did not take any unfortunately before throwing away the studs. He told me they were sheared right at the hub. It was the left rear wheel on a clockwise track, so yes, the left rear is the most heavily loaded wheel. Most if not all of his track time has been on this track.

Yes, Matt. I use OEM steel lug nuts from the air cooled cars. You can get them at the dealer or many places on ebay like here:

Classic fatigue failure: initiation around 10:00 at a thread root near the hub surface. Final fracture around 4:00. Flat fracture surface. No obvious defects. Higher magnification examination would almost certainly show telltale marks (called striations) throughout the fracture surface that confirm cyclic growth of the crack.
