The GT3, to me, is more of a drivers car. It seems most buyers expect them to have been tracked a bit and not always in pristine condition. So mileage doesn't impact value as much.
The RUF had a very high purchase price that I expect in time will help the resale value. It's more rare. It's a great looking car, and likely similar in perfprmance to the GT3. If you're buying as an investment, buy the RUF. I personally wouldn't track it regularly, as it would likely be more detrimental to the value long term as RUF collectors would pay more based on condition.
Beyond that, I don't know what the RGT has suspension wise. Replacement parts from Cargraphic are pricey if you have to order RUF parts. Where as the GT3 parts can be locally sourced at normal Porsche discount prices. (If you call it a discount!)

The GT3, by miles.
The RUF is a very attractive and collectable Carrera, but it is a Carrera. The GT3 is a GT car with a race engine.
Not even close if you ask me - and I live in Europe where support for RUF is good.

Do you own and hold cars? Or turn them in a couple of years?
As a long term hold and conversation piece and street car the RUF all the way. There will always be collectors who will show an interest in the RUF but overall your buyer pool is going to be even more limited than the 996 GT3 pool is these days.
As something you are going to use and enjoy and track get the GT3. Personally I think the mkII GT3 front end is much more attractive than the RUF.
It's the decisions like this in life that makes you realize how hard you have it best of luck you will have a great car either way!!!

Great points.
I get bored easily and only hold a car for a few years. I drive them. Its 996GT3 money which may be a car I would hold on to long and track. I would not track the RUF.
Its been sitting and needs 10k or so in updates and refreshing.
Thanks for all the input guys.
