Show me another street car that can stick with (or come within seconds of) its race car counterpart at a track day (and do it all day).

I instructed a student in an M2... very underwhelmed... It's a compromise car right out of the gate.. I used to be a HUGE BMW fan, but their quality is subpar nowadays. In 2 years when the first ones start to come off lease, they will be a dime a dozen.... the GT3 will still go up in value.

Don't take my word for it... ask everyone who has ever sold one and ask them if they could buy it back... Don't ask Mooty.. he's done is at least 25 times.

  • Factory Warranty
  • Can actually drive it on the street - meaning I would probably drive more
  • M2 is cheaper to modify (probably)
  • Could potentially do European Delivery and take the M2 to the Ring
  • Won't have the fear that every time I drive the M2, something is going to break and cost me $2000

CONS (against M2)
  • Lack of raw, visceral driving experience (and the M2 will feel dead and disconnected in comparison)
  • M2 will not be as much fun to drive on the track
  • M2 will never be a GT car
  • M2 colors are quite boring (GT3 is black so...)
  • M2 will depreciate

I guess the thought of doing European Delivery is what is pushing me over to the M2 side...it just sounds like such a great life experience (and a chance to get back to the Ring).

CONTEXT
  • The 6GT3 is my only car
  • I barely drive it - it sits under a car cover in my semi-private garage
  • I live in the city and I'm slightly tired of having to worry about ripping the front lift off every time I take the 6GT3 out
  • Do about 4-5 track days a year (so not a lot)
  • Don't truly need a daily driver for my current job, but would if I left
  • 6GT3 has ~53k miles on it - I think I've taken care of most of the problem areas but I am perfectionist and would like to replace the entire cooling system and all the other assorted parts for a 12 year old car.

Let me know what you think...not in a huge hurry to make a decision. I just keep going over it in my head I wanted to get some feedback
What is an M2?
Is that some type of "off brand"?????

I'd buy an audi first.

So drove the car today...battery finally gave out at the Shell gas station on the PCH so no canyons for me today.

AAA gave me a jump and I got home.

Just got back from having a new Bosch battery installed. So glad its going to rain all weekend. Guess I don't have to worry about whether the car will start anymore.

Ha, i unfortunately had the same problem until I got a CTEK battery maintainer. Saved the battery and she always starts now.

Back to topic, I've had a similar thought recently (as in selling the 6gt3 for something else) but keep coming back to two strong facts...the 6gt3 will only go up, and nothing else drives like it.

Any resolution? My friend came back from Thailand and explained a few terms to me.

Long time girlfriend = 6GT3. Fun on the weekends and a keeper.
Short time girlfriend = M2. Novelty is great, but tires quickly.

Note. I've only driven the F80 M3. Driving it slow gives me normal car feelings. Driving the GT3 slow is still exciting for some reason. Up the pace and there's no comparison.

If you are to have only one car in the garage for occassional use, a 911 is car to have.
Especially a GT3.

It appears you do not need a daily friendly car.
Somethig older would require constant work and something newer would be too far removed from analog.

Dont worry about scraping the nose.
We all do it with confidence.

The older the GT3 gets, the better it becomes.
Do not be afraid to mothball it. These are the next Rgruppe.

Sorry guys...just had to bump the thread

Took delivery today...9 miles on the clock. First new car. Went 6 months without a car in LA after the 6GT3 went back to Scott (which has been fun) but I think I want to do some tracking this summer

GT4 prices just didn't come fast enough (and the Cayman GTS just didn't seem like a GT car)...maybe next year with the manual 991.2GT3 (but who am I kidding)
