I HAVE A THEORY WHY WATTS GT3 WAS SLOW. 1ST OF ALL HIS CAR HAD CALIFORNIA EMMISIONS ON IT. THATS GOTTA SLOW IT DOWN. AND 2ND OF ALL I THINK HE WAS AT ALTITUDE IN THE CANYONS.

was watt saying that his gt3 was slow, or was he saying that it was unimpressive under 5000 rpm?

There's no such thing as "CA Emissions" on the GT3. There's one emission spec for all 50 states on current Porsches. I think watt's complaint was that, compared to the GT2, the GT3 lacked torque and it was pretty peaky rather than the mesa shaped torque curve you usually get with a turbo.

Thats the way a race car runs. Who needs those RPM's under 5 grand anyway. I'm going to wait a while and buy myself a return on a low mileage model and save a bundle.

The GT3 is far from slow. Compared to a biturbo GT2, the GT3 would feel down on power. Compared to a Carrera (3.4 or 3.6), the GT3 has plenty of power.

Sloth:

Exactly.
I drove the first one that came in to the dealer. Its not a turbo and I didn't want a turbo. Its a racers car. Springs are not progressive, they are stiff all the time and the engine doesn't go until 5 grand. I figure at least half the people who buy this car will trade it in in 6 months because its not what they thought it was.

Tom,

Nearly everyone who rode in the GT3 at the track this weekend, including the owner, said they wouldn't want the car for a daily driver, it was much too stiff. My C4S felt like a caddy comapred to the GT3.

However, everyone agreed that it made an excellent track car and even completely stock on stock tires, etc. it made for a lot of fun on the track and was much quicker than a C2 or C4S and in the hands of this particular owner was faster than a normal TT as well. The GT3 had gobs of low end torque and gave a good kick in the pants coming out of the turns.

Is the GT3 slower than a GT2? With equal drivers, sure I bet it is, but is the GT3 a "slow" car? Not by any means, just ask the cars it left in the dust this weekend at our DE event.

tom-i agree 100%. a few months ago, alot of so called experts were telling people who were asking that a gt3 is an excellent daily driver, even in winter conditions. these people clearly would have been better buying a tt. a gt3 is a track car. i believe, as you do, that alot of those people will soon be selling their gt3, and buying a carrera.

A normally aspirated track car that I can drive to and from the event is what I'm looking for. (That was what I meant with the 1st post). I cant wait. The one I drove at the dealer was bought by a guy who had a 2003 TT. He only had that car for 6 months so I'm 1 st in line for GT3 if he trades it in for a Caynne Turbo or something. I bet he doesn't keep it for more than another 4 months. I went to a lot of trouble to stiffen my 01' c2 for the track. Only 2 things wrong with the car now, not enough brakes and the engine leaks. Both problems should be solved on the GT 3.

Maybe I am in the minority of those owning a GT3 (or that have driven it) but IMHO, the GT3 can absolutely be used as a daily driver. Coming from someone that has owned several 911's (996, 993 and older), I think maybe US drivers have become a little soft. This is evident by how the 911 has evolved from a comfort standpoint over the years. I would hazard to guess that your average european enthusiast would say the GT3 probably is not stiff enough. Flame me if you want, but the GT3 is not a true "track" car. It is a street car that can be taken to the track without any serious modification. Let's be honest....a car that was set up specifically for the track would not be a good daily driver.

I completely agree here. The GT3 is a ROAD CAR that has the capability to be a very capable track car. A big part of this is its adjustable suspension. It's extemely funny to hear all this rubbish about the car being a poor choice as a daily driver when the whole point of the car is to be a daily driver that has the capabilities to do very well on the track. Thank God Porsche isn't bringing the GT3RS street version to the United States. I don't think Americans are ready for a car like that.
