wheels for 6GT3 18 or 19?
Hi,
After few years Im coming back to my gt3 and I looking for tires. I noticed that the world made a huge step forward and mos newest 3 are on 19/20 inches wheels. That's probably the reason that most tires are avaiable in this sizes
My question is; Is is possible or worth driving on 19 in 6gt3? How does it effect in the street and track. What sizes fit to 6, ET and wide?
Cheers

Three Wheelin'
For track - 18 are cheaper and have lower rotational mass & intertia vs equal 19's
For looks - all up to you

My point below is about track tires that aren't used that much on the road.
Keep the 18" with 996 GT3. For best grip try a set of Trofeo R or Dunlop D03G if you want something else than MPSC (which I still like a lot).
Still no fact whether the new MPSC2 is faster than original MPSC (not talking about the "n-spec" MPSC+ which is rubbish). So keep the 295/30/18 set up with 996 GT3 and enjoy.
For 996 GT2 and powerful 996 Turbo RWD conversions, things are more difficult due to lack of tire choice in Europe. No good R-compounds offered anymore in size 315/30/18 or similar, so it's a must to downgrade to a 295/30/18 rear and things get slippery, or go to 19"...In USA it's easier as Nitto NT01 305/35/18 is widely available, not a very fast tire but fast enough.
I have currently 996 Turbo RWD and 19" for track work. Actually went to 19" because of 380mm brakes. But would prefer a 18" setup. Toyo R888 is offered in wide 18" sizes, but it isn't grippy enough for me. Shipping a lot of Nittos from USA isn't that viable choice either.

Are stock GT3 wheels OK for track use? I know they are heavier than say OZ's but does it make a huge difference? I would be mounting 235's up front and 315's rear NT 01's
Thanks for any advice. Cheers

I run 19" wheels on my 996 gt2 and am very happy so far.
I wanted a good tyre I could drive on the street to and from track and on track for times when I didn't want to bother trailering and using 18" slicks, and also for tourist driving at the nordschleife when the car needs to be street legal.
There is nothing really in 315 18" that can cut it, hence why I went to 19".
I'm running 265/30 fronts and 325/30 rears in mpsc.
So its possible to use 19's on track and the street and I've found no real difference in the way my car is on track.
