Default NYC PPI

Hello.. I might soon be a new owner of a 2003 GT2. Yesterday I put a deposit down on a GT2 that is currently sitting at Formula Motorsports in NYC. I live near Portland Oregon so I am hoping to get some recommendations for a PPI. The inspection would have to be done at Formula Motorsports, preferably by next Wednesday (April 2nd).

Formula is representing the seller, otherwise I would just have them do the PPI. They have done all maintenance on the car for the present owner, who has had it for the last nine years. I would be the third owner. No maintenance documents are available for the first two years/3600 miles of the car. The car now has about 34.5k miles. The present owner did track the car.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I've never been to formula motorsports but am familiar with the area. Unfortunately there aren't many reputable shops nearby, so you're kind of out of luck unless you can get the car somewhere on long island.

I'd trust your gut on this one. Make sure you do your diligence and are familiar with that shops reputation. Have them do a ppi and report back. From there you're probably going to have to feel things out.

Thanks for the info. From what I have read online Formula seems to very honest and has a good reputation. Getting an independent third party for the PPI is preferable, I suppose if I have no luck finding one I'll just go with Formula.

Michael from Formula has told me he can recommend somebody, but I'm not sure how neutral that party would be.

Try Rudtner's Racing in Freeport. They may also be listed under South Shore performance. There is also SM in New Hyde Park. Rudtners is member of the local PCA.

Southern CT is not too far from NYC.
Here are a few options:
1) http://www.speedsporttuning.net/contact-us.asp - already mentioned
2) www.fairfieldcountymotorsport.com
3) www.mortoncompetition.com
4) www.danieljacobsllc.com/

Any of these would work.

Thank you for all the replies. I had asked Michael if they could diagnose the number of overruns for me. He has sent an email advising me of the results... and apparently they are not good.

He said they plugged in the PIWIS tester and found "the car has inherent mechanical flaws that have not been addressed along with electrical faults that may or may not be repairable". He says he cannot in good faith give anyone the go ahead to make this purchase.

I'm quite disappointed, although glad this was discovered before investing money in a PPI. Guess the search goes on!

Called Formula today to try and get more information on what they found wrong with the car. They were not willing to give any specifics, their response was rather cagey.

I guess their hands are tied. Either they 'did me a solid' and steered me away from a potential problem, or the owner of the car got a better offer and wanted to back out of my deal. In any case, my deposit has been refunded in whole.

Ebay #201058641125 if anyone is interested. Oh well, there will be others.
