6GT3 owners in SF or south

Anyone have a few minutes this Saturday to show me their 6GT3
possibly take me for a ride around the block?

I've been wanting a GT3 for a few years and couldn't find one in my price range or one local to me.

I'm used to driving a '95 C2 and just bought a Speed Yellow 997.1 S with Sport Chrono etc. and in a week or two I'm about to be offered a GT3 for a price I can afford. I've read all the threads on 997S vs 6GT3 and GT3 daily driver. I need a push in either direction. Will I track the GT3? Yes, twice a year only.

Your help us greatly appreciated

Best
Ed

Forgot to say the main reason I want a GT3 is the engine.

I am over in the east bay. I have 997.1 GT3 if you want a ride.

Thanks for the gracious offer 88TurbolookCab but seeing a 997.1 and getting a ride in one might push me towards one and its something I cannot afford. That's why I'm shooting for the 6.GT3. Extremely kind for you to offer!

If not tracking forget 6gt3. Mike

^^^Agree w/ 996FLT6. The only caveat is that if you live in an area with lots of wide open, twisty back roads that have good surface quality and a low prevalence of speed traps, a 6GT3 can be fun away from the track. Otherwise, not so much. Driving it in traffic is a bit of a blue balls experience, and driving it over choppy asphalt is downright unpleasant. Once you do get some open road, it’s very easy to find yourself at hyper illegal speeds. Seems as if the roads inside of SF would be a very non-ideal environment to enjoy a 6GT3, but I don’t know enough about the surrounding back roads areas to comment. On track, it’s a whole different ballgame!

I've got one in SF but probably wouldn't be a great example to ride in for your purpose as it's setup for the track - full monoball, motons, 6-pt cage, etc - you get the picture. It's not fun to drive in SF proper but is a hell of a lot of fun north or south of the city. Can't even remember what should drove / rode like with stock suspension. Sounds like you'd be selling your 997 if you got a 6GT3? Actually just saw someone driving a guards 6GT3 on my way to work the other morning. Had black fikses and I think a cage if I remember correctly. FWIT, I did daily drive a 996TT with motons, monoball and rollbar for a while but that was on the Peninsula so not as bad as the city.

I am thinking about selling mine as I am close to picking up a 2009 Carrera S. Happy to give you a ride and if I am comfortable with you let you drive it. I am in San Mateo so pm me for details.

I'm in Half Moon Bay, and would be available Saturday afternoon.

Thanks for your kind offer. I'm going to try and hook up with Gate on Sat.
you and I have meet before. It was on the north Golden Gate Bridge parking lot about 5-6 years ago?
You were in your yellow GT3 and your buddy had a Corvette.
Never forgot that day!! You were such a kind man to show me your car.

ltcjmramos 11-15-2013 07:59 PM

Oh, yeah, I remember. You had a high interest even then as I recall. Good luck in your search.

Edinsf 11-15-2013 08:40 PM

^^^^^ Yep, I still want one--bad.......The only difference now is I don't care
what color it is. I'd even buy a pink one.
Hope you are doing well!

ltcjmramos 11-15-2013 09:25 PM

Ah, a GT3 pink pig!

Now, now, you're losing any negotiating position you might have had. :)

Doing well. Finally, fully retired. Been working two days a week the last 8 years. This last position with a nonprofit has become a 3 day a week job, which is at the very limit of what I wanted to do. It's about to move to 4-5 days a week, so passed the job on to a friend, and testing retirement. More time to drive!
