Default Lightness is everything

Have read the weight reduction thread !Excellent all the way around.
Want to keep the car looking/feeling street but lose some weight .Would like to lose 100lbs.but that may be aggressive .
Thoughts are:lightweight battery 20 lbs
Plastic rear and quarter windows about 10lbs
Lightweight exhaust?????
Need suggestions here any street legal exhaust sytems that save weight and don't cost a bajillion dollars ?How much weight is saved by going to bypass pipes?
So I am no where no close any suggestions much appreciated

Subscribed. I want to do this too.

Step 1 is just removing all the junk in the trunk (the tool kit). Another easy mark is installing the Euro seats, which cut tons of weight. They're expensive, but you can buy them used and you get lots of "pounds per dollar" in weight reduction.

Cool!!Already have Euro seats and Lwfw .w
Who makes a lightweight durable wheel that's affordable reducing unsprung weight is of course huge and I have typically run the stick wheels in the track thinking they were really robust but they are heavy cheers HOM

Light, strong, cheap... choose any two comes to mind, Tom.

Like Mooty said, hit the wheels. The stock wheels are strong and heavy as rolling lead weights!

Get some trick multi piece rims so that you can rebuild em after Hoosier blowouts at 140+.

All season Braille battery is actually not too bad IF you are on a maintainer all the time.

Bypass pipes? Forget that... save weight, yes, unstreetable loudness, yes. Everyone will think you're trying to street race them when you're simply trolling at 18 mph. They're great for the track, though unless you're heading to AMP.

Window make no sense to make unless she becomes a stripper.

So, get some wheels, strip her down, and throw in lexan and a cage. BOOYAH!

Randy!Great to hear from you!Hope you and your family are happy and healthy! So with the Braille battery is the tender support truly a constant like even at the track ?Whats the weight savings delta? Is there one that weighs more that doesn't need the tender constantly ?What exhaust system would you suggest ?Missed you at VIR last weekend!!

Wheels either CCW or OZ Allegrita.

Exhaust. Eddie at RPW Race Parts Warehouse. I went with a 7.2 RS takeoff exhaust with side muffler delete and Cup rear bumper cover. Lost around 50#'s and sounds good but not to loud 96db @ Roebling Road.

As said above with the lighter seats, flywheel plus battery I can see you at around 2900# easily.

The biggest weight savings will come from adding PCCB rotors, replacing OEM wheels, removing stock seats and installing recaro pole positions (or OE clubsport seats), replacing heavy steel hood with carbon, lithium battery.

As far as exhausts go, every option is compromised. Muffler bypasses sound terrible and make the car way too loud. I can't recommend them at all.

These are 997.1 take-off headers/cats and a 997 cup muffler. This option gave me the sweet sought after 997 gt3 sound, gained a little power, saved weight, and volume was SPOT ON. However, this setup also calls for replacing the bumper cover with PMNA part, or aftermarket replica.

2950 is a good target with all of the above mentioned weight savings. Any less weight will make substantial street compromises.

Have you read through "my" thread? It will give you some ideas.
I think I've pushed the street legal lightweight envelope to the max. Around 2650lbs give or take a few pounds.

No regrets; lighter is indeed better. Probably the most rewarding modification, driving-wise, one can do with any sports car.

Best,

I am guessing at around 30 lbs. And the cover is a 996 cup part.

You have to set your priorities. Inexpensive. Quiet. Light. You can't have all three. You must compromise somewhere...

The lightest exhausts will either be titanium (since the metal is less dense than iron base alloys), or inconel (nickel alloy - its yield strength allows incredibly thin walls). $$$

John probably is the most extreme with the weight reduction on his 996. Let me reiterate that there is nothing cheap about getting your 996 into the 2600s.
