GT2 Value long term?
#16
My presonal belief: the 996 GT2 model will be the next one to move up in price. Why? 996 GT3RS had done it already..993tt also..but already overpriced I would say. 996 GT2 has fairly low production numbers compared to 993tt. About 1200 996 GT2 were produced..if the figures I have somewhere are correct then even the 997GT2 is a bit rarer then 996 Gt2. Just to compare..more than 1300 2.7RS were produced.
The fact mentioned here that the GT2 is "scary"..will in long term only add more value to it - because of that. So, yes I would say that 996 GT2s are now at the bottom..question is whether the price will remain the same for some time..or will start to climb. I suspect for the next 2 years it will be flat..nevertheless, buy one now and enjoy is is my philosophy.
Whether 997 GT3 will go down that much..I doubt it..they will be the last Mezger ones and 991 GT3 will be considerably more expensive..so I see 997.2 GT3s stabilising somewhere at 90..whereas the new one will be roughly 135..

I think 996s are just doomed for long term value. There were always considered the bastard child a weird transition from air-cooled to water-cooled. The headlights blah blah blah. We all know the story.
Essential 996 GT2(3)s are the cheapest way to get into a GT car and will always be that way. 7GT2s have hit the unattainable values. 7GT3 owners think they have gods gift to 4 wheels when they try and sell them. Even with an economic crash the people who own these $200k+ GT cars won't be effected too much. But I bet a few 6GT2s show up under 100k and a few 7GT3 drop 15-20k. I've already seen a 7GT3 down turn in values, because I've been shopping.
I'd buy a 6GT3 there are couple of decent examples in the $60k range with 40k miles on the market currently. I don't think they'll budge much in value. UP/DOWN. Which I like better than buying high and getting stuck during the low period.

The 996GT3 has increased in price over last few years.
996GT2 is the same deal.
These were the last bargin GT cars.
I cannot see them going up any further in value, but i cannot see them sinking either.
The GT3 was simple and plain.
The GT2 was also plain and had chitty suspension on the track.
They are decent street cars and fun for weekend rips.
that being said, the 996 will never be the saught after generation.

Cargurus list the cheapest 6GT2 at about 140K. Asking and selling are two different stories I know.
IMO GT2s and 3s are in different categories.
Yes 3s are more "practical" and possibly trackable but the 2 is just a monster.
IMO people collect monsters.
Look at 383 Cudas vs 426s.
Same chassis.

A 6GT3 at 60K is a great deal.

if you think 6GT3 is a cost effective version of a GT car than you're just wrong. It's a purpose built car. A 383 is more like a carrera. Look at 997 gt2rs and 997 gt3rs 4.0.... the 2rs is a monster but let's face it most will take a 4.0 over it.

Indeed
If you are referring to me and my car, I did just buy it, and I am not selling it, want to get that mileage up to where it should be. I was just pulling Mooty's chain with the "make me an offer comment." Mooty knows that....no offer forthcoming either

I'm wanting to soften the ride of my 6GT2 for a more streetable car with aftermarket shocks and if there is a tie rod (?) upgrade do it as well.
