One more question: With these non-folding buckets in a cage-equipped car, is it possible to slither into the rear compartment to vacuum the carpets? I can do that now with the sport seats, but wonder if it's possble without having to remove a non-folding bucket seat.

Absolutely. It just takes a little Cirque du Soliel action but it can be done.

See my thread here for a suggested method https://rennlist.com/forums/996-gt2-...detailing.html

Dell - Thanks for the feedback.

Dervish - LOL. Nice suggestion, but not an option for me!

Hi. Has anyone successfully had their 996 euro GT3 seats recovered with new leather? I want to change my black leather to champagne beige. I don't want to dye it if possible. Thanks

I just bought a set of inserts from Carnewal.

http://www.carnewal.com/products/P96...-P96-GT3-Seats

I went with Alcantara dark gray to match other interior bits. Nice contrast to the all leather Euro seats.

I didnt ask if they sold a full seat leather replacement.

Ask Gert at Carnewel. Great service.

I purchased some Porsche plaid cloth and had new coverings made. You can reuse the foam assuming it's still in good shape.

Then I had a local mobile leather repair come by and touch them up with a spray-on dye - worked great.

Point is...you'll be hard pressed to find replacement leather or fabric that fits the shells.
FR - I'm about to swap the leather covers from one pair of euro 996 GT3 seats to another pair. The shells of both pairs of seats are exactly the same - are you saying despite that, you still had trouble swapping the leather from one set of shells to the other? If that's the case, how were you able to get the leather covers that you did take off, back on the shell they were removed from?

I'm just trying to get some clarification before I tackle this project.

Thanks.

I think he he had trouble because the carbon fiber shells are not OEM. As far as I know, Porsche only made the euro seats with the black painted backs that are ?fiberglass? Definitely not carbon fiber. That didn't happen until the Carrera GT seats.

Give them a ring. They do more than steering wheels.

^^ So do I. They have the stickers on the bottom, Recaro embossed on the back, etc etc.

To address SM's 3 month old question... (sorry, been focused on the 993 board for a year) After I removed the leather from both drivers seats, and tried to swap...things just did not fit. I was working it carefully, pulling, pushing, carressing - but the fit was just off.

When I gave up and put the covers back on their original seat, they went on easy and fit perfect.

I am led to believe they tailor the cover to the shell/padding.

But, since its been 3 months...maybe you did your swap and can let us know how it went.

Cheers,

The CF 996 GT3 seats are actually the stock plastic seat shell with a carbon fibre laminate moulded around the outside, and thus they're heavier than the non-CF items ..... Still stunning seats though ! !
They cost a lot more $$$$ when they were new too !!

Had them in two of my Mk1 996 GT3's :
