This. I'm lost now.

I had an early release tire way back which I was told was a JDM spec tire that had "GGG" printed on the sidewall, all of my research showed this was just a difference in the way they were labled not actually anything else different about the tire.

I think there is only 1 "mainstream" compound when you order R888 but there are a couple special formulations denoted by a code (i.e., GG, etc) for specific race series spec requirements.

I believe there are three compounds for the toyo r888:
GG = standard
GGG = softer (shorter life / less miles)
SG = softest (even shorter live / less miles)

Every set I bought was GG.

I don't think they ever made the wider 18" in any other compound.
The "GGG" & "SG" were only available upon request for smaller selected sizes. And mainly suitable for sprint events etc.

Based on your pictures, and my own experience running these tires
- reduce your REAR camber to -1.6 (you can see the inner wear is higher than the outside wear)
- you need more front camber - you don't need -2.5 but -2 in the front with camber plates would be good
- i think you can also see very, very slightly higher wear in the center of the tire, i would recommend slightly lower temps with the r888s (31-33f, 34-36r)

As others have said, the tires have many sessions left - but you can see that the inner rear edge will go first so based on your current speeds - reduce that rear camber - the r888s have very stiff sidewalls and that is part of the reason

I support 996FLT6 in flipping the tires to even out the wear. My vote would be to flip regularly assuming dry conditions. I waited too long on my last set of 888's (the last 888's I'll ever buy) before flipping them and my 6GT3 was really loose for the first couple of sessions.

I swap left to right but never flipped on the wheel as that would be insanely cost prohibitive. As long as your setup is spot on, you should have even wear across the face. The left to right wheel swap like I do allows me to balance out the side dominant tracks wear pattern. I number my tires so I can keep track of when I used them last and what side to move them to.

GGG is the compound for R888. Actually according a few people I've spoken with at Toyo over the years is that the RA1 is also GGG compound but the difference is the R888 is an overall much stiffer tire and tread blocks are much bigger thus build up heat faster and more and heat cycle out faster.

Absolutely. I use a silver sharpie (so you can see it against the black tire) and do three markings.

1. I put a single vertical slash very every session I drive on the tires so I can count HC's.

2. I put a mark of sorts (symbol, number, etc) that is the same for one front and rear and another different symbol that is the same for the other front and rear. Then I notate which side I placed which symbol so when I install them for the next event, they are on the other side.

3. I put an arrow pointing down at the valve stem so I can see if the tire moved on the rim.

Really in the US they are 3G?

Here most 996/997 Porsche sizes are 2G.
