Tom,

Not sure yet. I'll be picking the car up on Tuesday. I'm expecting the bill to be north of 2,500.00. There is a bit of work dropping the motor, pulling the coolant components, cleaning, removing the fitting (some popped right off), welding them up then reinstalling everything. One of the fittings was damaged during the removal process, so Kenny fabricated an new one. All of the hoses and rubber bits were replaced as well.

Some pics of before and after below.

I know of one 996 GT3 owner who lost a fitting at Watkins Glen and had it repaired at a dealership with the upgraded adhesive. It came loose again at Mid-Ohio. This time it put 4 people behind the GT3 in the gravel between T10-T11. The end result was one totaled early turbo and $15k to my car. The GT3 motored on into the pits with no damage. The owner of the GT3 put the pipe back on with JB Weld.

In hind sight I think the owner of the turbo and myself would gladly have paid for the proper repairs to the GT3.

One good thing the Safety Solutions 7 point harness and Hybrid Pro Rage did their job.

RSR Motorsports in the San Diego area did the engine and part R&R and AMAR Engineering did a great job on the tig welding.

I have read a few threads on this. Forgive me if I've missed this, but is this applicable to the GT2 as well?

I had mine repaired under CPO (2007 GT3). Fitting popped out of the case. No argument from Porsche NA. They paid for it and they said they will cover it until the end of my CPO. Porsche won't pay for a real fix unfortunately. Porsche also told me I cannot run Water Wetter. How dangerous is this, I live in South Florida FGS. I have started to warn my students to not follow the Turbos and GT3s too closely and really pay attention to the cars in front of us. Bimmer guy at Homestead this weekend forgot the gas cap and there was gas flying everywhere! When my CPO is done at the end of this year, Orbit Racing (West Palm Beach, FL) will drop the motor and weld in the fittings like they setup their Cup cars. I'll probably add a few improvements while the engine is down.

To get back to the original spirit of the thread..(do this preemptively), I would love to but my car has a Porsche CPO. If I touch anything on the motor I risk Porsche NA voiding my warranty. The dealer where I bought the car already told me not to modify the exhaust until my CPO is over. Then if I have a problem with my RMS I have to have another fight? It would be nice if there was a Porsche supported fix like there is for the IMS problem. I wouldn't go crazy about paying for the fix myself if I could still have my CPO. It's not an ideal situation but what can you do.
