Default FRONT BRAKE ROTORS – for my 996 Mk II 2004 GT3 (6 pot calipers)

Need a new set of FRONT BRAKE ROTORS – for my 996 Mk II 2004 GT3 (ie with the larger 6 pot calipers)

Have been getting 6 moths use only from the OEM Sebro’s.
Cracking from the very outside ventilation holes close to edge of rotors, plus cracks between the holes.

I’m typically only doing short sprints, time trials etc – or 8 lap races (9/10 minutes) – at most
- So fade, heating not a huge issue
More focussed on getting some good life from the rotors – but still reasonable bite factor etc.

OEM Sebros are DRILLED of course – I hear SLOTTED rotors are better as no issues with the cracks between the ventilation holes
- But these heat up easier? Provide the same grip/bite factor?

Appreciate thoughts..........recommended suppliers?

Cheers
JB

For a cheap option, ATE Cayenne fronts @ 350mm. A bit heavier, but last well, and are really cheap ($200/pair).

Look into Girodisc Slotted rotors, I had them on both my 996 GT3 and the 997.2 GT3, great product and last much longer than the OEM rotors. There are several sponsor on this site that will fix you up with new rotors.

I had deman and now ATE. They aren't that much heavier - just a couple pounds. IMO, if you can tell the difference on a street car, you should be getting paid to race ;/

I've been using Girodisks on my 996/GT3 for the last two years. Love them... Excellent build quality, nice weight compared to OEM and they seem to last an unbelievable amount of time.

Is there a specific model no or the ATEs / cayenne? Would like to be sure when ordering. Just learned about this at track last week.

Awesome guys - seems there is a common consensus.
- rare among Porsche people!

Interested also - how long are people getting from discs/rotors? - hard to compare of course, given different track use - but I'm getting approx 6 mths - 10 short events.
& I am a waaaay late braker ;-)

& what are favoured pads - "bang for bucks" orientated
- been using PAGID yellow - nice - but not cheap

cheers
JB
