Transmission carrier mount?!
Take a look at this:
http://www.suncoastparts.com/product...96_GT3_Chassis
The description from Suncoast:
Transmission Carrier Mount
Factory transmission carrier. After time, the rubber mounts are prone to wear over time. This part comes standard on newer models, but is an upgrade for older models. See the list below for the exact application.
* Fitment: Turbo - 2001-05
* Turbo - 2006-10 (6 Speed or Tiptronic)
* GT2 - 2002-05
* GT3 - 2002-10
* Carrera & Carrera 4 with Tiptronic - 2002-08
Replaces part number 99637503303
As our cars get more miles put on, we are starting to put in new motor mounts, replacing the bushings, etc. This is the first time I have seen an "upgrade" for the tranny mount. (997 part #, but looks like it can be used in 996, as stated)
Anyone know how this is different than the stock 6GT3 tranny mount?

I put that and it's almost identical in appearance to the older one. Now if they did change the rubber quality or construction method I can't tell.
What I know is that this thread is a good reminder for people to check their tranny mounts as mine was completely shot within a year of the last inspection.
Look what was left from it..

None that I can remember.
Sometimes a part is superseded by another part only for logistic reasons / vendor reasons etc and only as a number change, and not actual part change. In case of real changes or "upgrades" usually you see a number change in the last digits of the part number.
In this case I only see the 996 to 997 change.
But this is to be taken with a grain of salt.

Okay. Got it. But I guess it being a wear and tear item, might not be a bad idea to change it out at certain interval anyway, as you found out.
I have gotten my solid motor mounts (Rennline, full solid), so it got me thinking about the front portion (tranny side) of the equation.

Do check it, I couldn't believe mine was that bad, I felt like an idiot in the workshop, you know like the guys who visit the dealership one time every 4 years when their car falls apart.
Funny thing and a surprise is that I couldn't feel or hear the thing. Of course being partially deaf from the exhaust doesn't help diagnosing noise problems, but it was a surprise nonetheless. : )

Three Wheelin'
I had to replace mine not to long ago. Super loud grinding noise only on med. high speed right turns on track, no noise on left turns. Sounded like the transmission/gears where grinding off around the turn, but only right turns.
Shop found that the rubber had broken into many pieces. Replaced and all is well.

Hard to tell from the pics above, but does a new mount have rubber all around, or just 4 pads in each hole like pic from Slow?
IOW, what signs am I looking for when I'm under the car?
And maybe this is a big contributor to the 2-3-2 shifting issues that are mentioned elsewhere...?

The older and the newer part have rubber around and a metal bushing at the center, just in my picture I omitted the detached metal center so that you could see the damage of the rubber.
Check for cracks and chunks of rubber missing.
Cup cars have a solid mount..

I cannot find a clear picture, only this draw.
Since I haven't fit those I am not sure if they r plug n play, but I am sure that the noises transmitted from engine and transmission with the solid tranny mount, a lwfw and cup cables would be like sitting in a real cup car aka LOUD. : )

Thanks John.. !
Looks like the top cross bar looks the same (at least possible) but the lower 2 pieces are different. I wonder how much they cost.. ha! (not like I'm going to do it, but just curious, on how the price compares to the OEM replacement)

Actually you SHOULD do it and report back. It can't be that much $$ and you already have the Rennline solids. Plus, you're going to be in there anyway. Would be great to get a first hand report.
Oh common, do it
