Things like this are very relative to the driver. Case in point, you've got one gentleman extolling the virtue of a stiff setup and another who didn't like the relatively soft urethane mount. 85a durometer is hardly what you would call "hard", but it will certainly add a fair amount of NVH.

997rs4.0 - My best suggestion is to try and take a ride in a car that is already running the setup you are considering.

Thanks for all replies,

I'll give the tarett stuff a try and see how it feels. A fun and not to expensive mod.

i just did the Sport Tarret trans mount bushing, very happy
And have the RSS SS engine mts.
Way more "feel" on the track and minor increase in NVH

Nice, thanks for the info. Did you go for the Orange Tarett trans mounts?

Looking forward to trying it out.

No
Green, softer sport version
2 days of track on Mon-Tues this week.
NVH increase was moderate and I'm fine with it.
No more miss shifts 3-2

Always been tempted to try the CAE shifter. The movement looks so sweet. And we all know why it's called the slippery slope...... Or while you are in there. At least that's what I'm telling my wife

Solid tarett engine mounts, orange tarett trans mounts and a new shifter. Can't wait to get these parts and get them installed for Florida track season.

I've added the Rennline solids to my Turbo, and will be adding the 75A trans mount this week. The solid mounts made a huge positive change, can't wait to see if there is any difference with the trans mount.

FWIW, I posted a thread in the 996 Turbo forum, but I measured timing and knock values pre and post solid engine mounts... Same ignition advance and no additional knock being detected. I think it is safe to put that solid mounts cause knock issue to bed...

I replaced my still original gearbox and motor mounts a couple of days ago. What I noticed immediately during my test drive is that the car shifts so much easier. The effort required to throw the lever has at least halved. I am very happy with the result.

The gearbox mount was ripped on one side

the motormounts weren't all that bad, a little saged, but I have seen worse.

Old vs. New

I made a high level DIY, I am by no means an experienced youtuber but maybe this helps the next guy.

What are the down sides to solid mounts? I ask because my motor mounts are solid (metal), and they work well. I know the solid cup car mount destroys itself periodically, and I wonder if there is a good reason to keep some rubber back there.

Thanks

Ray, how could the solid mounts destroy themselves?

Torque, and the cup car mounts are not as robust as they could be. I suspects the mount is designed to fail before the tie down points for the transmission. hmmm, maybe I am answering my own question :-)

I have heard of the engine blade failing on the cup cars but not the mounts? I would never put solid in a road car personally but it is awesome on a track only car.

I probably spent the best part of a year looking at all the options, Wevo, RSS, 964RS, Rennline. I was able to test drive two GT3's with non stock mounts (RSS and Wevo) and I did not really feel any significant difference with regards to handling or responsiveness of the engine. However, almost all after market mounts have some or other drawback. Mostly the problems are around longevity or with the components getting unsettled over time. For this reason I chose to buy the original equipment mounts at almost double the price of aftermarket ones.

Just surfing and noticed your post.
Hope you're doing well. I see you're still enjoying "my car". Even at my advanced age, I still have a lot of memories of that GT3 and all those track days.
Keep up the good times. Hope you still have the GT3.
