VIR World Challenge In-Car
Seth Thomas #38 VIR In-Car
Thought some of you guys that track your GT3s might enjoy a couple of laps of in car from my World Challenge race this past weekend at VIR. While the lap times are slower in this car than a GT3 at VIR I think it is still just as exciting.

I was there the weekend before watching some of you guys practise.
We were staying in the new condos at the top of the esses so we had a good view of things.
Is it only the BMW cars that take the mud line up the uphill esses (i.e. one wheel fully on the dirt) as it didn't look like the acuras were doing it?
Do you have any data to show it is faster?
Would you ever do it in your street gt3 or will it end badly?
I attended a two day audi event in my 997gt3 a few days before the race and there were a few e36 gutted track prepped cars there and they were all doing this line and they would gap a few cars on me before the turnin to #9 by doing this
thanks for the answers in advance and nice driving
ps. my friend Pat was driving the Mazda and finished a "few" cars behind you

997Gt3North: I would call the BMWs doing that a home track line through the esses. I don't have any data showing that it is faster. What I do know is that it is faster because I have to setup for the last turn in the uphill esses differently. This can be done in a Porsche but it has to be done just right. The BMW is forgiving enough that if you make a mistake taking this line you can recover. We all know that a GT3 is not as forgiving. The reason for us doing this is because it creates a straight line through the uphill section. The straighter the car is the faster it will go. Also if two cars are going the same speed through the section, the car going straight will travel less distance than the one avoiding the curbs/grass. This will make the curb hopper slightly faster through that section.
Hope this helps.

They are great cars at this point. We have made lots of improvements in the suspension geometry since the cars have been lowered a lot from their stock counterparts. Doing this has made them easier to drive on the limit which makes them faster every weekend.
Plus you can't beat the sound of the side exhaust and straight cut gears!!!!!!

Xtract is the key term for those gears. If the Acuras and Mazdas are going to run them then so are we.

Very nice Seth. Good chattin' with ya again and of course, all the best to you and your family. After watching your interview after the race I couldn't help but feel for you for the situation you must be going through. You are in our thoughts and prayers. May everything turn out for the best.
By the way, do you have video with telemetry overlay similar to a "Trackvision" setup?
