Default Price Estimate? 2004 GT3

I met a guy who recently bought a 2004 GT3 and is looking to sell it. He's really not an enthusiast so much as a guy who runs with some wealthy real estate investors and flips cars frequently. According to him, an investor he knows has taken a huge hit due to the mortgage crisis and sold the car to him as part of a multi-estate "fire sale" to reduce debt and increase liquidity. He brought it over on Sunday and I looked it over and took some pictures which I can post later if needed.

In short, the car has 49k miles on it and the following options:

- Body color: Carrera White (no sunroof)
- Black leather
- Bi-Xenon Headlamps
- Wheel caps with colored crest
- PCCB (the ceramic rotors are gone, now steel, non floating)
- Cruise control
- Sport Seats with painted backs
- Yellow seat belts

Original sticker on the car was $113,675.

The car appears to have been poorly cared for or possibly tracked extensively. It has several rock chips on the hood and other body areas and the paint suggests it's been run through automated car washes. It has clear armour on 1/3 of the hood, the front clip and behind all wheels but the clear armour is yellowing badly and needs to be removed/replaced. Body is straight with no signs of damage or repair. The car doesn't smoke at all and there are no signs of oil leaks underneath. Interior is in decent shape but the seat backs have what appear to be rubber scuffs on them as though a previous owner was hauling extra tires in the back. More evidence of track use perhaps. The 6-piston yellow calipers remain but the rotors are steel and about 50% worn with some small cracks forming around the cooling holes. Again, more evidence of track use.

I'm not in the market for the car but believe the current owner got it for a song and would sell it for $70k or less. Anyone know anything about this car which was originally purchased from Baker Motor Company in Charleston, SC on 9/14/2004 and more recently resided in the East San Fran Bay area?

VIN is: WP0AC29954S692727

I will try to see if service records were kept or are currently available. The current owner is not knowledgeable about the car and I suspect he'd flip it for a few grand over what he paid which I'm guessing was in the mid $50's. For someone looking for a 2004 GT3 track car, it could be a good fit, especially if a cosmetically perfect car isn't a priority.

Any input on the approximate value of the car, assuming it has a clear title and some service records, would be appreciated. If anyone is interested in more information, I'd be happy to put you in touch with the seller. I have no direct interest in the transaction but think the car might be had pretty reasonably. He appears to have no love for the car and would not lose a nights sleep if it was gone next week.

$70k is dreaming. There are creampuffs with low miles available in the mid $70s.

This one would probably be fetched in high 50's with that miles and condition.

Before establishing a price, there are critical bits of info that need to be resolved. This would be accomplished by a Carfax and a PPI. Even if everything checks out, I agree with Dell that high $50's would be about right. If not.....

Thanks all for the info. Agreed a CarFax and PPI would be essential for the buyer. Kelley Blue Book put the wholesale value at $69,100 which I would discount by $6-8k due to the car's condition.

GT3's are still enough of a rarity that resale prices can vary greatly. I knew Rennlist GT3'ers could assist in providing a realistic market value for the car. I just didn't realize they had taken such a hit on resale that the $50's-60's was typical for a 2004 model.

Thanks again,

MC

It's not so much that the 996GT3 has taken such a "hit" as you claim but rather your example is not a very good one. Unknown complete history, extensively tracked, not cared for, and 50K miles really affects the value more than any other (non-salvage) GT3 that has been for sale recently. High 50's is probably very fair for this car.

Didn't mean to offend. I still consider GT3's to be very special cars and would have thought that a creampuff would be in the $80's and a poorly kept version in the low $70's.

Anyway, that's why I asked the experts. Much appreciated.

Yes, it is difficult to establish an accurate price, because I have not seen one on the market, as yours is described. I recently purchased mine, so I feel that I know the market. A good example will go from mid $70s to low $80s. Other recent cars for sale would be discounted for any of the wear/track/stone chip/unknown history issues by a few thousand dollars each. So, assuming that these are cumulative, and that the interested market for a worn, relatively expensive model is further limited, that is why I have ballparked it as I did. At that price point, other cars with no issues and probably cheaper upkeep could be purchased. At that price, for the right person, it would be a great buy.

I just pulled the trigger on mine last week. Its Arctic Silver with xenons, thicker steering wheel and cruise control. I bought from the original owner, a 60 year old gentleman who had it on track for one day for a Porsche Experience driver training event. Full records, books, Experian history check (like carfax), dealer service, and 3months of warranty remaining. It looks like a brand new car. 21,000 miles. A creampuff in my book. I paid $75K. I was a little concerned about the miles, but when I saw the car and checked it out, I realized this was it. It took me 2 years to find it.

FWIW, I sold my 04 GT3 for $56k. It was in beautiful condition, but had a history of being in a wreck with frame damage.

Default March '08 996 GT3 Values

Despite enough snow to have us skiing and snowboarding all summer instead of driving on asphalt, the anticipation of eventually driving here in the Great White North is enough to merit paying ~ $85,000. for a real cream puff 6GT3 and ~ $75,000. for an excellent condition one. I'm still snowed under March 19, and I want to at least, finally, uncover my GT3! Can't.
If you want a 6GT3 because you are a keen driver, pay the price for the particular GT3 you want. You will not regret doing so if, you are a keen driver.
Right now, the 6GT3 is hands down the best value in go fast quality sports cars.
Have fun!

FWIW I bought my 2004 GT3 in July 2007 for $79,500. It has 980 miles on it and was pristine - as new.

I paid 76,500 a few months ago for show room condition 7800 miles.
