GT2 owners question
How many of your brakes squeal? I have 3000 miles on my 03 and it seems like its getting louder with each passing mile. It was okay when it was a slight squeal but now it's becoming down right embarassing.
Are 03s worse than 02s or do all of them squeal so loud? Anybody know of a factory fix?
Thanks in advance,
Amir

amir,
neither of mine have squealed, although they make an airplane groaning sound when you use them: maybe it's your stripper!!
seriously, it may be that you've glazed them somehow.. Once warm, try a series of progressivly harder stops to 5 mph. not a dead stop. this may succeed in rebedding them. i did this on my first gt2 when my brakes seemed glazed and it worked. pccb need to be used hard.
regards, watt

Three Wheelin'
Hi Amir, Do you know which brake pads you have? I think there are 3 different styles of pads available. You may have the track/race pads, which is supposed to be louder. I am curious which pads you have. If you know please let me know. Trying to find out if Porsche uses the same pads for the steel and ceramic. From what info I have found, is seems to be the case. The pads are stamped and can be seen easily with out having to remove the wheels, at least the rears are clearly visible from what I remember.
I have the P90-S or the P90-2 Pads wtih the steel rotors and seem to be very quiet, my stock steel set up made more noise.

Hello Amir,
Yes, on my former GT2, the brakes squeeled big time...like it was grinding metal to metal. The car had about 3-4k miles as well. Anyhow, I knew this is common with the carbon brakes, and the squeeling...I liked it, street legal racecar at its finest...I don't look at it like its a street car! The brakes should squeel! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" />

One for the steel rotors (early GT2's) and two for the PCCB. For the PCCB, there is a normal version and a comfort version. I guess the normal version is the one considered for the track.

Thanks for all the input.
Watt - thanks I'll give it a try.
Oak - My pads are the P90-2.
AWD and CJV - I actually did enjoy it when it wasn't as loud but within the last couple hundred miles, either my hearing has gotten a lot better or the brakes have gotten much louder. Let's just put it this way, I think my neighbors can here my brakes coming before my exhaust. And I've got a Europipe!
Viken (AKA Yoda of Porsche) - would you know if the P90-2 is the normal or the comfort version?
Thanks in advance,
Amir

I don't know about the P90's but here are the Porsche PCCB pad part numbers for the GT2 brakes:

Front comfort: 996.351.947.01
Rear standard: 996.352.948.90
Rear comfort: 996.352.947.01
